– Sophie Campbell will be releasing her upcoming series “Shadoweyes For Good” on Substack. The writer/artist announced that the new title has been something that she has worked on for years in between her work on books like “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Jem and the Holograms.” The book is a sequel to “Shadoweyes,” which Campbell wrote, drew, and lettered back in 2010 for Iron Circus. Campbell is the latest creator to make the move to Substack, joining the likes of Scott Snyder, Ryan Stegman, Donny Cates, and Chip Zdarsky. Substack is a newsletter service that offers fans a way to directly support their favorite creators through various paid subscription tiers, similar to platforms like Patreon. You can visit Campbell’s page here.

– Writer/artist Erik Larsen has announced that the next issue of “Savage Dragon” will be released with two unique editions, each with their own letterer. The decision comes after the departure of letterer Ferran Delgado, who left the series last month. Following this, Larsen reached out to two different letterers whose work he enjoyed to see if they would be interested in working on the title. Ultimately, Larsen decided that he liked both and will be producing two versions to help decide who becomes the new letterer moving forward. As such, “Savage Dragon” #260, due out next week, will offer the lettering of either Rus Wooton or Jack Morelli, depending on which cover people buy. Wooton’s work will be featured in the standard cover edition of the book, while Morelli’s version will be available in the “Retro 1970s Trade Dress” edition.

– In an effort to help encourage people to get vaccinated, Marvel and New York City’s SOMOS Community Care are teaming up to release a new comic. “Avengers: We Are Resilient” — which is written by Henry Barajas with art by Craig Rousseau and Chris Sotomayor — is being distributed at vaccination sites throughout New York City to help spread information on vaccines in Black, Latino, and Asian communities. This collaboration was spearhead by Funny Or Die head and SOMOS US co-founder Henry R. Munoz III, and sees 20,000 comic books, 20,000 lithographs, and a video comic being made available to kids and families. SOMOS Community Care has been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has helped distribute over 1.5 million doses of the vaccine across the New York City area through their collective of over 2,500 doctors. More information on how to get vaccinated can be found on the SOMOS Community Care website.

– The Eisner Award-nominated digital series “The Stone King” by writer Kel McDonald and artist Tyler Crook will be released in print for the first time next summer. Dark Horse Comics will be running the book as a four-issue mini-series starting in May 2022. “The Stone King” was originally released as as a comiXology Originals title in 2018, and was nominated for Best Digital Comic at the 2019 Eisner Awards. It follows Ave, a thief who runs afoul of a mighty giant after stealing healing moss from the Stone King. Writer Kel McDonald previously released “Misfits of Avalon” through Dark Horse, while artist Tyler Crook has worked on titles such as “Harrow County” and “Manor Black” for the publisher.

– Outland Entertainment will be teaming up with Comics Experience Publishing to release their line of comics and graphic novels through Diamond Comics Distributors. The partnership will bring Outland’s line of books to the direct market starting in late 2021, and will include an upcoming series from writer Cullen Bunn based on Barry Blair’s Aircel comics. The deal will also feature select import titles like “Hopeless, Maine,” “The Bean,” and “Fox & Willow.” Outland Entertainment was founded in 2008 and began producing comics in 2017.

– The fastest man alive has a new foe waiting on the horizon, as actor Tony Curran has joined the cast of The Flash season eight in the role of Despero. In the comics, Despero is a alien telepath who dates back to “Justice League of America” #1, where he took on DC’s heroes with the fate of the Earth hanging in the balance. It looks like he’ll be in a similar position for this series, as a deadly mission places Despero at odds with Team Flash. Actor Tony Curran is a BAFTA Award-winner who is known for his work on the TV shows Your Honor and Ray Donovan, but some fans may best remember him for his guest appearance as Vincent van Gogh on Doctor Who.

– Netflix is moving forward with their sequel to The Old Guard, bringing in director Victoria Mahoney to the project. Mahnoney was the second unit director for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and has also helmed episodes of Lovecraft Country, You, and Power. She will be stepping in for previous director Gina Prince-Bythewood. The Old Guard stars Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, and Matthias Schoenaerts, and is based on the comic series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez. It follows a covert team of immortal warriors who must fight to keep their identities a secret while pursuing a mysterious new operative. The first film was a rousing success for Netflix, and was viewed by 78 million households within the first month of release.

– Actors Jimmi Simpson and John Noble will be joining the ensemble cast of Star Trek: Prodigy on Paramount+. The series is being produced by Nickelodeon Animation and centers on a crew of young aliens who must work together on their quest to explore the galaxy. Simpson has been cast as Drednok, a robotic enforcer who works for The Diviner, played by Noble. They join the likes of Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Dee Bradley Baker, and Star Trek: Voyager alumni Kate Mulgrew.

– Game developer Microids will be bringing back Kate Walker for one last journey in Syberia: The World Before. The game will be released on December 10 and comes after the death of series creator Benoit Sokal earlier this year. This will be the fourth game in the Syberia series, and sees Kate endure a new adventure set during the 20th century. The first two games in the Syberia series are well-regarded classics, though the third installment left many critics disappointed. The franchise was adapted into a graphic album in 2017.

– Finally, Hanna-Barbera and Marvel veteran Don Jurwich sadly passed away last month at age 87. Jurwich was a director, producer, and writer whose work included Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, and Super Friends. Jurwich studied at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California before making a name for himself in the 1960s on The Flintstones. His work on The Smurfs helped him earn a Daytime Emmy Award nomination, while his time on Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and the Heavy Metal film endeared him to millions of fans.
