– Newsarama reports that Rafa Sandoval has renewed his exclusive contract with DC and will take over artist duties on “The Flash” beginning with November’s issue #58. Sandoval has worked with DC since 2016, beginning on “Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps.”
– This week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly features Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel on the cover and offers the first official updates, interviews, and exclusive looks regarding the movie. Captain Marvel, out March 8, will be the 21st installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it will be the first to feature a female lead.
– Cartoonist P Mahamud has won the first ever PEN-Gauri Lankesh Award for Democratic Idealism. P Mahamud’s work is vocal and critical of political corruption, communalism, and caste prejudice in India. The award is meant to celebrate a life committed to equality, justice, fearlessness, and a strong connection with the idea of an India where diverse voices can speak with freedom.
– James Bond actor Timothy Dalton has been cast to play Dr. Niles Caulder aka The Chief in DC Universe’s Doom Patrol, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The casting follows the addition of Brendan Fraser and Alan Tudyk to the cast as Robotman and Mr. Nobody, respectively. Bruno Bichir was cast in the same role for the Titans series last February.
– At Entertainment Weekly, DJ Steve Aoki announced a comic book collaboration with new publisher Impact Theory Comics called “Neon Future.” The creative team includes writer Jim Krueger (“Justice”), and artist Jheremy Raapack (“Injustice: Gods Among Us”), and the book will debut at New York Comic Con on October 4.
– First Second began two weeks of Spring 2019 cover reveals via their Twitter account. The first reveal was of “Old Souls” by screenwriter Brian McDonald and artist Les McClaine (“The Middleman”).
– The CW’s Black Lightning has cast Medium/Supergirl alum Sofia Vassilieva to play Looker. Black Lightning showrunner Salim Akil refused to comment on what iteration of the character Vassilieva would portray, saying, “It’s really going to be interesting, the way we approach that story…. I think people will enjoy it, but also be challenged by it.”
– The categories and nominees have been released for the 2018 People’s Choice Awards and comic book movies/TV shows are featured heavily with Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Teen Titans Go!, and The Walking Dead all being shortlisted various times among many others.
