Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the weekend. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– Marvel has announced the creative team behind the upcoming Miss America Chavez series, “America.” The script will be handled by Gabby Rivera, known for the YA novel Juliet Takes a Breath, but who also works for GLSEN, a national organization to help LGBT-youth feel safe in school. Art duties will be handed by Joe Quinones. At the risk of editorializing, both of them seem like strong fits to handle this character. “America” #1 is set to release March 2017.
– Here’s the full line for all of Marvel’s January 2017 United States variants. So take a look and get frustrated by who Marvel decided should represent your state. (Like, Hercules is for mine for some reason?) I think a better theme would have been to put Miss America Chavez on all of them, but that’s me.
– David Leitch has taken on directorial duties for Deadpool’s sequel. Leitch is probably most famous for his work on John Wick, and so maybe some residual bits of awesomeness may carry over. But seeing how Fox is producing this movie, it’s doubtful.
– Have you ever wondered why the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies all look kind of ugly? Well, video essayist Patric Willems has an idea. I think he missed the part where it’s a producer-driven franchise under the tyrannical hand of Kevin Feige, who’s all about appealing to the least common denominator and not challenging anyone to actually engage with a piece of entertainment and instead sit back and be appeased and placated by it, but Willems does bring up a few good points.
– Finally. moving away from Marvel news, Blizzard has cancelled their Overwatch graphic novel, “Overwatch: First Strike”. It was supposed to be a prequel to talk about how the team used to be or something. Writer Michael Chu suggested that the plug was pulled on the comic because the mythology of the game grew so much over the past year that the original concepts weren’t really valid any longer. So it goes.
