– Mad Cave Studios have announced “Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders,” written by Jordie Bellaire with art from Koi Carreon, and colors by Sarah Davidson. The book, which is being published through Mad Cave’s YA imprint Maverick, is based on the ’90s animated series of the same name. The cartoon, which was originally conceived as an adaptation of Dragonriders of Pern, was instead inspired by Arthurian legend, and follows Gwenevere, princess of Avalon, as she learns to become queen of her kingdom. “Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders” Vol. 1 goes on sale May 28, 2024.
– Dark Horse announced “Kill Me and Other Curiosities,” a new anthology by Chad Lambert featuring art by Kevin Czapiewski, Apri Kusbriantoro, Christine Larsen, and Tom Williams, as well as lettering by Jaymes Reed, Tom Williams, and Kevin Czapiewski. “Kill Me and Other Curiosities” will include seven short stories by Lambert from “Dark Horse Presents,” including ‘Kill Me,’ which follows a man stuck in a time loop. “Kill Me and Other Curiosities” will be released on July 3, 2024.
– Via Screen Rant, Oni Press have announced “NacelleVerse” #0, written by Melissa Flores with art from Diogenes Neves, Francis Portela, and others yet to be announced. The comic will kickstart a new universe, and introduce characters and plot points that are part of a multi-year plan, including the Biker Mice from Mars, RoboForce, Sectaurs, Power Lords, the Great Garloo, and other toy and animation icons owned by the Nacelle Company. “RoboForce” will launch soon after in April, followed by “Biker Mice From Mars” in July. “NacelleVerse” #0 will hit comic stores on March 20, 2024. – A GoFundMe has been set up for Larry Charet, one of the founders of Chicago Comic-Con, now known as Fan Expo Chicago. The GoFundMe states that Charet, who had been asked to open the show after Wizard World sold it to Fan Expo in 2021, was told he would be provided a booth at the show in 2024. Former CEO of Chicago Comic-Con, Gary Colabuono aka Moondog set up the page to raise $5,000, to “reserve his booth at the convention and help get him through the upcoming winter.” Charet is the owner of Larry’s Comic Book Store which opened back in 1972, making him one of the country’s first comic book retailers. He co-founded Chicago Comic-Con, and is the only living person to have attended every convention held in Chicago. To get Larry’s full story, check out the GoFundMe here.
– A Disney press release has indicated Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte will be the only live-action Star Wars series releasing on Disney+ in 2024. io9 reportedly confirmed Andor season two has been delayed into 2025 following the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which put a stop to filming weeks before it was set to conclude. Showrunner Tony Gilroy originally stated at this year’s Star Wars Celebration that he expected the second and final season to be released in 2024, two years after the first.
– Via The Hollywood Reporter, the nominations for the Critics Choice Awards have been announced, with Loki earning nods for Best Drama Series, Best Actor for Tom Hiddleston, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Ke Huy Quan, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Sophia Di Martino. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds earned nominations for Best Drama Series, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Celia Rose Gooding, while Lower Decks was nominated for Best Animated Series. Mask Girl and Moving, based on the webtoons of the same name, were both nominated for Best Foreign Language Series. The Critics Choice Awards ceremony will take place on January 14, 2024. – Finally, the nominations for the 2024 Kidscreen Awards have been announced. Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur earned four nominations, including Best New Series, Best Animated Series, Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie, and Best Inclusivity. American Born Chinese received a nomination for Best New Series in the Teen category, while Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures earned the same nomination in the Preschool category. All the winners will be announced in a ceremony on February 5, 2024 during Kidscreen Summit 2024 in San Diego. You can check out the full list of nominees here.
