– Goosebumps creator, R. L. Stine will be writing a Man-Thing comic for Marvel. “My first ambition was to be a comic boo artist,” he said in the announcement interview with the New York Times. “I was terrible. I had no choice but to be a writer.” In Stine’s version of the character, Man-Thing “can talk and he’s very sarcastic.” The five-issue series will be illustrated by German Peralta and Daniel Johnson with covers by Tyler Crook. Additionally, the series will feature backup stories written by Stine and illustrated by various artists.
– “Bitch Planet,” “Patience,” “Hip Hop Family Tree,” “Cul De Sac”, and “Saga” were announced as selections for the 2017 Angoulême Festival. The Festival itself seems to be pressing to make some changes, especially following the debacle of last year’s.
– First Second is turning 10 years old in 2017 and they’re gearing up for a packed release schedule. There’s something like 40 books coming from the publisher. “We want to be holding up a mirror to the human experience in as many facets as possible,” says editorial director, Mark Siegel. Make sure to check out the recently released covers for their Fall 2017 line, including work from Alex Alice, Gene Luen Yang, Tillie Walden, and Nidhi Chanani.
– Even though the first movie hasn’t even premiered yet, Marvel and Sony have already announced the release date for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. I guess the strength of the trailer alone was enough for them to launch a new franchise-within-a-franchise. Oh, the release date is July 3, 2019 as of now.
– Kate McKinnon has signed on to star in The Lunch Witch. The film is being directed by Chris Kaytis, director of The Angry Birds Movie but who also contributed to significantly better movies like Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph. The source material is from a series of graphic novels by Deb Lucke.
