Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the weekend. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– Over the weekend, at Chicago’s C2E2, Marvel announced six upcoming titles. The majority of them are tie-ins to the upcoming “Civil War II” event, featuring characters like the Amazing Spider-Man (from Christos Gage and Travel Foreman) and the Gods of War (from Dan Abnett and Emilio Laiso). Christopher Hastings and Langdon Foss attempt to channel that sweet “Prez” spot with “Vote Loki” while a bunch of artists churn out the next variant theme, “Mighty Men of Marvel.” (Hmm.) Most exciting, however, is the original graphic novel from Ryan North and Erica Henderson, “The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up the Marvel Universe,” slated for release October 2016.
– Among those titles is the announcement of another Star Wars book. The “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” tie-in comic will feature three issues and a one shot, though Marvel didn’t offer anything about the creative teams handling it. Unlike the other “Star Wars” comics, this one will drop a couple months before the December release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and will apparently serve as a prequel to the events in the film, which in and of itself is a prequel to Star Wars.
– Daniel Clowes, in promotion of his latest project, “Patience”, has joined the ranks of What-the-Fuckers. Clowes tweeted out a picture of himself and host Marc Maron after a recording session, with the promise of the interview posting soon on the WTF Podcast.
– In true superhero fashion, CBS’s Supergirl and The CW’s The Flash are crossing over. While that isn’t news, CBS has released a teaser and some images of the upcoming episode. Will it be more like the Steven Universe/Uncle Grandpa event or fall in line like those terrible Buffy/Angel episodes? We’ll find out soon enough.
– Viz Media also announced at C2E2 a ton of books coming out later this year. There’s Volume 6 of “One Punch Man” (a favorite among Multiversity staffers) and “Tokyo Ghoul,” the “Deathnote: Omega Edition” (¯\_(ツ)/¯), and more episodes of Sailor Moon Crystal. Best of all, they also plan to publish an art book of Hayao Miyazaki’s “Castle in the Sky”, scheduled for release in October.
– Take some time to read this. Tim Hanley delves into Lois Lane’s revolutionary role in feminism, with some series in the 70s that defined the character and the way women ought to be treated as characters forever, despite DC’s best efforts to fart on that idea.
– Apparently, Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice wants to make an adaptation of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead. This, by the way, is the guy in control of the DC Cinematic Universe so…. Though, as Sam Barsanti points out: “Of course, there is the possibility that Snyder doesn’t really care what Rand would’ve thought and he just thinks The Fountainhead is cool story about a guy who makes awesome skyscrapers. That’s about the same level of depth he brought to his Watchmen adaptation, his 300 adaptation, and all of his other movies”
– In truly unfortunate news, one of the best sites for comics writing on the Internet, Zainab Akhtar’s Comics & Cola, will be shutting down at the end of the month. This follows a guest post from Kim O’Connor, “Don’t Be a Dick: Tips and Tricks for How to Talk About Comics”, where Akhtar admits that she’s just fed up with a lot of the vitriol directed at her. “Being a woman, being Muslim, being brown, and writing about comics in a culture that is inherently hostile to your presence- I’m empty,” she tweeted. The comics world needs more writers like Akhtar, with a more variety of perspectives and interests like Akhtar’s. It seems every step forward into a more inclusive and encompassing medium comics gets, there’s some dudebro fratboy who wants to pull it back.
Anyway, here’s wishing Akhtar the best and letting her know we’re all eagerly awaiting what comes up next.
