– Long rumored and even longer gestating, Genndy Tartakovsky’s “CAGE!” comic is finally arriving this October. Like the “Batman ’66” and “Wonder Woman ’77” titles, the book will apparently be of its era. “I saw it in my head like Bruce Lee and Shaft hanging out together,” Tartakovsky says. “I liked the idea of ad down and out hero scrapping for work, love, and just trying to survive.” The project was announced about eight years ago, but following Tartakovsky’s work on “Iron Man 2”, “Sym-Bionic Titan”, the “Hotel Translyvania” franchise, and the aborted “Popeye” reboot, the series was continually postponed. “I actually finished all the pencils and part of the inking, it was just a matter of continuing on,” Tartakovsky said.

– Canadian illustrator and musician, Geneviève Castrée Elverum, has passed away at 35. Announced by her husband, Phil Elverum, on their GoFundMe page, only a month after the Elverums started the campaign to help the family through the trying time when none of them could produce any work. Elverum created a string of independent comics, such as “Susceptilble” and fronted the musical project Woelv and Ô Paon. Check out this great interview with the Comics Reporter from 2013.

– This San Diego Comic Con, First Second will debut three new graphic novels from Box Brown, Gene Luen Yang, Mike Holmes, and Ben Hatke. According to Rich Johnson (and this grain of salt), First Second claimed they weren’t the kind of publisher to do SDCC, though it looks like they’re expanding.

– If there’s one thing Bob Harass loves, it’s the crossover. So it’s not surprise that he’s been digging through the properties Warner Bros. owns (or can license), looking for material to smash together. His latest endeavor is “He-Man/Thundercats” set for release this October. It will be written by Lloyd Goldfine and Rob David with art by Freddie E. Williams II (who did the last crossover, “Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle”).

– R. C. Harvey and Ann Telnaes discuss how the editorial cartoon has changed in the era of social media. Head’s up, though: Telnaes is a woman drawing comics on a huge platform, so there’s some rough and offensive language directed her way quoted in the article. It’s still ridiculous and sad people think it’s okay to talk to other people like this.

– On Friday, we asked which of Marvel’s post-“Civil War II” books you were most excited for; well, the results are in!

54% of voters are geared up for “The Unworthy Thor” (or the book that’s giving Odinson the hammer in time for the next movie). 16% of you are excited for “The Death of X” while 13% of voters are all about “Champions”.

Make sure to check back Friday for our next Weekly Readers’ Poll!
