– The nominees for the Ignatz Award have been announced. They include nods for Daniel Clowes, Ryan Heshka, Carolyn Nowak, Simon Hanselmann, Melanie Gillman, and Meredith Gran. The Ignatz celebrates small press and indepenent comics and cartoons; the award is named in honor of the homicidal mouse of “Krazy Kat.” This year’s winners will be announced at the Small Press Expo September 17 through September 18.
– New York Comic Con is starting to get so big, its original venue, the Javitz Center cannot hold it anymore. This year, NYCC will expand to The Theater at Madison Square Gardens. Lance Fensterman of ReedPOP stated: “New York Comic Con has become a premier destination for some of the world’s most creative studios and it only made sense to showcase them at one of the world’s premier venues – The Theater at Madison Square Garden.” (Last time I thought about Madison Square Gardens, it was infected with a bunch of baby Godzillas.)
– Potential spoiler for the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming? Last March, the Disney Channel star, Zendaya, was cast in Marvel Studio’s reboot of Spider-Man, though for whatever reason, for the longest time, they kept her character under wraps. According to The Wrap, it looks like Zendaya will be playing none other than Mary Jane Watson.
– Who wants to play video games? Because Cartoon Network is releasing their new side-scroller action game this November. Cartoon Network Battle Crashers will feature Finn & Jake, Mordecai and Rigby, Gumball, and Steven Universe and will feature “certain enemies [which] can only be defeated by a specific hero’s unique ability.” They had me the first time Finn popped into the frame.
– Marvel’s latest team up? Harley Davidson
– Marvel’s latest break-up? Natalie Portman.
