– Founder and CEO of BOOM! Studios Ross Richie has a bit to say about pushing #ComicsForward in the latest Previews catalog. Richie aims to start a dialogue between creators, publishers, retailers and fans that will get the ball rolling on what could be the future of comics. Citing BOOM’s recent successes with a wide range of titles from a diverse set of creators, the editorial feels less like it’s about applauding one publisher’s accomplishments and more about goading everyone into just being better. Richie says,
If you believe comics are great just the way they are, this isn’t for you. If you think superheroes are the only kinds of stories worth telling in comics, this isn’t for you. But if you want to see everyone reading comics—your aunt, your coworkers, your niece, your boyfriend, that kid down the street—let’s Push #ComicsForward in 2015.
If that’s not a challenge, I don’t know what is.
– Looks like CBS’s Supergirl has found another cast member in Mehcad Brooks. Tapped to play the role of CatCo. photographer Jimmy Olsen, Brooks will star opposite Melissa Benoist in the series pilot.
– Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley will be reunited to finish what they started: The Ultimate Universe. “Ultimate End” will be a five issue mini series that will bear the “Battleworld” banner, but Bendis says isn’t a tie-in “in the tradiitonal sense of the world.” The Newsarama minutes of the Marvel press call announcing the series reveals a lot of back patting between creators, but not too much in the way of details.
– Toy company Kotobukiya has revealed a new line of mini-figures based on Dustin Nguyen’s “Lil’ Gotham” designs. They remind me of Monster in my Pocket and I want them all.
– Paul Bettany has spilled some beans on the fact that there are some long term plans for him in the role of The Vision, but doesn’t get into too many specifics. My biggest take away from this CBR piece is that Bettany didn’t realize the scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe until pretty recently, as he had never actually watched any of the movies. Previous to being cast as The Vision, Bettany has been a part of the MCU since its inception by providing a voice for JARVIS, the artificial intelligence created by Tony Stark.
– Everyone pour one out for “The Unwritten” as this week sees the series’ end. CBR has a spoilery exit interview with Mike Carey and Peter Gross to help us all find some closure.
