Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– Welcome to 2016 from all of us here at Multiversity Comics! We hope you have a great year filled with plenty of awesome comics.
– Marvel has finally found the director of their upcoming Black Panther film. Ryan Coogler of Creed and Fruitvale Station has been tapped to helm the upcoming blockbuster. Coogler, 29, won an Independent Spirit Award the 2013 Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Fruitvale Station. Blank Panther stars Chadwick Boseman and is slated to be released on February 16, 2018.
– As his new series with Ryan Kelly, “Cry Havoc”, is about to hit stands, Si Spurrier (“The Spire”, “Gutsville”) has started talking about what the upcoming werewolf/lesbian/but-not-really story will entail. Of particular note are all the mythological and lore elements he’s been gleefully mixing in.
– Check out this discussion with publishers from Viz Media, the Comic Book Legal Defenst Fund, and the editorial director of Graphix about the evolution of graphic novels and comic books. Things like this do point out that the Diamond numbers don’t truly reflect the kinds of comics that people are reading and seeking. Also, it’s just interesting to see how the medium has come into its own.
– George R. R. Martin has confirmed that The Winds of Winter, the sixth book of his Song of Ice and Fire series won’t release before the premiere of the sixth season of the HBO show. There’s been no word yet whether Dynamite will continue publishing their “Game of Thrones”-based comics line.
– It looks like Daredevil Season 2 will be coming to Netflix this March. The second season promises The Punisher and Elektra.
– James Gunn wants to remind you that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is still coming out, even though we have Star Wars in theaters again (which crossed the $700 million mark domestically, incidentally). He also says that Captain America: Civil War is “one of the best Marvel movies ever,” so start getting hyped I suppose.
– I guess one way to fuel your drug habits is to steal a bunch of “Avengers” and “Uncanny X-Men” back issues or something?
