Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– David Tennant (of Doctor Who fame, though I will always know him at Barty Crouch, Jr.) has signed on to voice Mason Savoy in the animated adaptation of “Chew,” replacing the late Robin Williams. He’s joining Felicia Day and Steven Yeun. This is the second attempt at bringing “Chew” to screen, after Showtime passed on a series back in 2014.

– Dark Horse has notoriously been one of the few major comic publishers not releasing their catalogue on Comixology, but thanks to a cryptic countdown on the Comixology blog, it looks like Hellboy might be making his way to the online digital retailer. More information will be released later today, and we’ll hopefully know whether more than the Mignolaverse is coming.

– Zainab Akhtar gives a thorough and fantastic rundown of the use of sound effects in Frank Quitely’s art. There’s always so much to focus on when it comes to Frank Quitely that these essays taking on a specific topic are consistently fascinating.

– Nickelodeon has set a release date for their newest animated series, Pig Goat Banana Cricket. The series comes from the collective creative consciousness of Johnny Ryan (“Angry Youth Comix”) and Dave Cooper (Futurama) and is set to premiere Saturday, July 18 at 10:30 am EST.

– Coming out of “Convergence,” Wonder Woman features a new costume, courtesy of Jason Fabok, and Tony Guerrero at ComicVine looks at the reasoning for the change. In true Meredith Finch fashion, the entire reasoning is spelled out on the page — it has something to do with competing in a man’s world and growing up from a girl to a woman. Someone in the Multiversity offices looked at it and said, “It looks like she walked through a hardware store with a magnet.” (Seriously though, the Finches’ work on Wonder Woman might be worse than Gardner Fox, Robert Kanigher, or all of “Amazons Attack!”)

– A little while ago, Sony and Marvel released a list of the people they were considering to play Spider-Man in the next phase of Marvel movies, and they all sort of looked the same? Don’t get me wrong, there were some I liked (Asa Butterfield), but they all had a sort of dweeby, scrawny schtick going on. Well, there’s a reason for that. According to some leaked documents, Sony has a specific idea of what they want their Spider-Man and Peter Parker to be. Apart from the not smoking or using drugs thing, Spider-Man cannot be gay (unless Marvel creates a Spidey that’s gay), and Peter Parker can only be Caucasian. My favorite part was the note saying he got his powers either in middle school or college, because there’s like a four-year gap between the two? Anyway, the list is pretty a good reason why all these Spider-Man movies feel the same.

– “Grayson” is probably one of the most fun, enjoyable, and all around solid books DC is currently putting out. Tim Seeley and Tom King chat with Matt Santori-Griffith about the direction of the series. I think it’s obvious that they both just really love working on this book, and really love Dick Grayson.

– First Second has announced a new collection of fairy tales from Nathaniel Lachenmeyer and Simini Blocker called “Hop Hop Wish.” Lachenmeyer and Blocker give a behind-the-scenes peek at the upcoming book. I love that there’s a house that has “Battling Boy,” “The Wrenchies,” “American Born Chinese,” and something like this all in their wheelhouse.

– The CW announced a plan for another DC-themed TV show. Currently in development, “Hawkgirl” starring Ciara Renee.

– Finally, in Webcomics Worth Clicking: Jake Wyatt’s “Necropolis” is a stunning piece of fantasy. The story is still only in its early stages, but it’s already something to behold. Image will be publishing it as original graphic novels as Wyatt finishes each part (think “Hinges.”)
