Hot on the heels of Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, writer Kelly Thompson (“Hawkeye,” “Nancy Drew”) and husband-and-wife art team Veronica and Andy Fish (“Archie,” “SLAM!”) are taking “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” back to her lighter roots. Entertainment Weekly announced that Thompson and the Fishes will launch a new five-issue “Sabrina” miniseries in March 2019.
Fans looking for more of the dark take showcased in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina should look elsewhere, says Thompson (perhaps to the comic of the same name). Instead, she and the Fishes hope to showcase an upbeat, classic version of Sabrina, updated for the modern age.
“‘Sabrina’ is one of the most fascinating and story-rich properties at Archie, so I feel incredibly lucky to get the opportunity to build in that world,” said Thompson, in a statement at Entertainment Weekly. “One of my favorite things to do is to come in and modernize a wonderful classic, and I hope with this incredible team on board we can do something really special with ‘Sabrina.'”
In the comic’s first issue, Sabrina and her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, will settle down in familiar Greendale – where Sabrina quickly encounters typical high school drama and not-so-typical magical problems.
