During its initial announcement at 2018’s San Diego Comic Con, Johns stated the miniseries would explore a “new facet of who Bruce Wayne is that’s never been seen in comics. It connects him to the Joker in a way that will change their relationship forever.” Now, Johns has revealed that the identities of the three Jokers will be a major question for the series, and the story will heavily feature Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) and Red Hood (Jason Todd) because of the history they have with the Joker. Johns said the book is “really focused on healing, on scars and wounds and what that does to somebody,” with the book ultimately being about “healing right, healing wrong, and surviving.”

With the book being concerned with the legacy of stories such as “The Killing Joke” and “Batman: Death in the Family,” Fabok said that he wanted the book to be a “spiritual sequel, at least artistically,” to “The Killing Joke.” “You’re gonna see some familiar panels, you’re gonna see some familiar-looking things, like the Batcave,” he said, which has been “upgraded… but the same bones are there.” It was also confirmed that the series is finished and therefore won’t be delayed like titles such as “Doomsday Clock” have been.

“Three Jokers” was first announced at San Diego Comic Con ’18 and intended to be released that Winter under DC’s Black Label imprint, but was delayed. Last year at C2E2, Fabok stated he hoped the miniseries would be released last year but was delayed again.

“Three Jokers” #1 by writer Geoff Johns, artist Jason Fabok, colorist Brad Anderson, and letterer Rob Lee, will be published by DC Comics on June 17.
