Next year, DC Comics will begin releasing eight new miniseries starring characters like Swamp Thing, Raven, and Metamorpho. Each miniseries will be six-issues long. DC Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras hopes that “by bringing them on to their own special limited series,” DC will be able to spotlight “what’s so fantastic about these characters.”

DC revealed at USA Today this morning their current roster of titles and writers. So in early 2016, expect to see:

  • “Swamp Thing” by Len Wein
  • “Metal Man” by Len Wein
  • “Raven” by Marv Wolfman
  • “Katana: Cult of the Kobra” by Mike W. Barr
  • “Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death” by Amy Chu
  • “Metamorpho” by Aaron Lopresti
  • “Sugar & Spike” by Keith Giffen
  • “Firestorm” by Gerry Conway

No artists have been officially announced yet.

This is all a part of the initiative to “freshen up and contemporize” the DCU, according to publisher Dan Didio. He promises there will be a complete story in each series, with “a beginning, middle, and end, and something that affects the course of that character that we would be able to launch and take further if things are successful.”

As many in the Multiversity offices pointed out this morning, DC turned to some really old creators to try to rejuvenate these characters. “Expect a bunch of 50 and 60 year old guys to write what they think Millennials sound like these days,” someone said. That being said, these people have done interesting work with the characters in the past and Chu’s take on Poison Ivy sounds intriguing: so at best, let’s remain cautiously optimistic.
