On Friday, we asked what TV or movie franchise should get a direct comic sequel, much like how DC’s new “Batman ’89” and “Superman ’78” would pick up the threads of their most popular film franchises. We gave 40 choices in our poll and, while lots of them got votes, five choices stood out.
Taking first place with just 11.5% of the vote is Adventures of Superman. This is somewhat surprising, because although we’ve covered the entire series over the last few years, it isn’t something that is talked about/celebrated much anymore. That’s likely due to the fact that the folks who watched the show growing up aren’t exactly driving the comics discourse. I will say that, due to it winning this poll, within the month, I’ll be writing a ‘We Want Comics’ piece on what Adventures of Superman comics might look like.
Tied for second place with 9.6% of the vote were the Guillermo del Toro Hellboy films and The Rocketeer. Both of these are, inarguably, the most famous iterations of these characters, but also versions that a lot of fans have somewhat dismissed, due to their lack of similarity to the comics. Tied for third with 7.7% were Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy
