On Friday, we asked our readers what their favorite romance comic was. A clear frontrunner emerged early in the voting, and it never let up: “Love and Rockets” by Los Bros. Hernandez. “L&R” took 31.4% of the vote; while not a romance comic in the tradition sense, the various relationships, especially between Maggie and Hopey, give the book(s) much of its heart.

In second place was “Sex Criminals,” a romance comic via humor, crime, and sci-fi. The Matt Fraction/Chip Zdarsky series grabbed 17.1% of the vote, perhaps buoyed by its recent return to the shelves after a hiatus. A second Image series, “Saga,” came in third place with 14.3% of the vote. The series, which cannot be easily summarized under even a half-dozen headings, has a central love story that gives the book much of its shape, especially early on in its run.

The only other significant vote-getter was “Mister Miracle” with 11.4%. The Scott Free/Big Barda love story is the throughline of a series that played with superhero tropes in a number of ways.
