On Friday, in celebration of the 300th issue of “Spawn,” we asked you, our dear readers, if you thought more creator-owned series would reach #300. It was a close call, but 54.1% of you thought that, yes, more creator owned series would reach #300.
A big reason for that might be something an astute few commenters/tweeters pointed out: despite a few different publishers and volumes, Stan Sakai’s “Usagi Yojimbo” is currently sitting around 240 issues. With a new start at IDW, it seems like a 300th issue of the series could certainly arrive.
Of course, that means that 49.5% of you felt that we’ve seen the end of three-hundred issue series. I must admit, this is where I tend to fall in this argument, if only because we are seeing huge, world building comics still, but across a variety of titles. I’m talking about things like Mike Mignola’s Hellboy Universe and what Jeff Lemire is doing with “Black Hammer.” The days of a single title reaching that milestone seems unlikely, though I hope to be proven wrong many, many times.
Check back on Friday for our next reader poll!
