On Friday, we asked our readers who their favorite Green Lantern was. Sadly, our readers went the expected route, and voted G’Nort as their favorite ring slinger.
No, wait, they went with Hal Jordan. Even worse!
Look, there’s nothing objectively wrong with Jordan; he’s had plenty of great stories, is a founding member of the Justice League, was once charismatically played by Ryan Reynolds in a not-great film. But in terms of the Green Lantern characters, he’s pretty one-note. But 40.9% of our readers felt that he is the best of the Emerald Warriors, so I guess we’ve got to respect that.
22% of our readers made the correct choice and chose Kyle Rayner as their favorite. Rayner, once the last of the Green Lanterns, is known for his creative constructs, the poorly handled death of his girlfriend, and being sort of a himbo. BUT, he’s also the Lantern that has grown the most in the role, and one that, for almost a decade, had some of the most unique stories to ever bear the Green Lantern trade dress.
Coming in third was the OG lantern, Alan Scott, with 6.3%. The rest of the major lanterns all got at least one vote, but no G’Nort, Ch’p, Sodom Yat, or Boodika. I expected better.
