On Friday, we asked you what your favorite comic that takes place around Halloween was. Four books emerged in the double digits of voting percentages, but one choice really took the cake.
“Batman: The Long Halloween” was the pick of exactly 1/3 of the voters, getting 33.3% of the responses. The Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale book is considered one of the finest stand-alone Bat stories of all time, and the fact that it is 20ish years old means that it has been regularly available and in print its entire existence, making it an easy book to find, and is often an early Batman book for new readers.
From there, the next three choices were relatively close in voting. “Afterlife with Archie” is the most traditionally ‘horror’ comic of the bunch, and that secured 17.9$ of the vote. For those that haven’t read the series, this is the perfect week to give it a try, as it is both a truly scary comic and one that tugs on the heartstrings. Poor Hot Dog.
After that, “Watchmen” #8 came in with 15.4% of the vote. The issue, though set at Halloween, isn’t a particularly spooky issue, though the issue does have some metatextual Halloween stuff. On the other hand, “My Favorite Thing is Monsters” is a book that feels like more of it takes place on Halloween, based on how much monsters and monster movies play into the story.
