On Friday, we asked you what your favorite Image Comics-era Rob Liefeld creation was your favorite. What I find really interesting about the results are that, at least for the top spot, it seems pretty clear that the votes were as, if not more, influenced by recent-ish revivals than the original creations themselves.
45% of you voted “Prophet” as your favorite on the list. I would think those results would have to be indebted to Brandon Graham’s incredible work on the title from 2012-2014 with a variety of great artists, like Simon Roy, Giannis Milonogiannis, and Farel Dalrymple. Coming in second was “Youngblood,” Liefeld’s signature Extreme Comics work, which just had a really fun revival from Multiversity alum Chad Bowers and artist Jim Towe. Bringing up the rear of the top 3 is “Glory,” which had another great 2012 revival from Joe Keatinge and Sophie Campbell.
Unlike Marvel and DC mainstays, or even fellow early Image characters like Spawn and the Savage Dragon, Liefeld’s creations haven’t had long runs that span multiple years with any consistency. So, it makes sense that folks focus on recent successes, as for some of these characters, you’d be hard-pressed to find runs long enough to make a real impression.
