On Friday, we asked our readers to pick their favorite work by the late, great Carlos Pacheco. The 60 year old artist, who passed after a battle with ALS, was best known for his work at Marvel and DC, and when looking at the books our readers were most feeling, it is clear as day that Pacheco didn’t just work at the Big 2: he was a master at showcasing why those characters are so iconic.

A full 50% of our readers chose the Kurt Busiek/Roger Stern/Pacheco maxiseries, “Avengers Forever” from 1989-1999. This sort of widescreen, prestige book is what Pacheco would keep returning to over the course of his career.

In second place is Pacheco’s run on “Superman” from the mid to late 00s, garnering 18.2% of the vote. In third was Pacheco’s work on “X-Men” in the late 90s, with 13.6% of our readers opting for this.

The Avengers, X-Men, and Superman. There’s no better way to illustrate just how integral Pacheco’s work is to superhero comics than by showing off those three. Rest in peace, Carlos.
