On Friday, we asked our readers what the best Original Graphic Novel of 2021 was. While a number of titles got votes, nearly half the voters went for one of two books, both of which have the word ‘Monster’ in the title.
In first place with 25% of the vote was the third in the “Reckless” series by Ed Brubaker and Sean Philips, “Destroy All Monsters.” With three “Reckless” titles released since December 2020, 42.9% of our votes cast their ballot for one of the books in this series. It’s staggering both in terms of how quickly these high quality books get turned out, and just how much our readers enjoyed them.
Just behind it was Barry Windsor Smith’s long in the works “Monsters,” which collected 21.4%. Rounding out the top 3 was “Djeliya” by Juni Ba with 17.9%. It’s a testament to our readers that three very different books could come out on top.
