David: Brandon, it is time to look at your reigning favorite Valiant book in the form of Harbinger Wars #3 from Josh Dysart, Duane Swierczynski, Clayton Henry and Pere Perez. In some ways this was the calm before the storm. In others, it wasn’t. What were your thoughts on this latest issue?

Brandon: I really enjoyed it which I am sure comes as a surprise to everyone! I think it did a great job of moving the story along and still getting in some awesome action. Harbinger Wars is by far one of the best events in comics in recent years. It provides all the oooh and aaaah moments but still also gives you the connection between the characters that provides you a reason to care about those moments.

How do you weigh in on this issue?

David: It’s hard to disagree with that. This issue was completely rocking. It was like Danny Green, Gary Neal on fire, with Josh Dysart and Duane Swierczynski setting Clayton Henry and Pere Perez up to make some big threes.

And by that, I mean make big comics. Brandon, I just watched the Heat get decimated, and it was glorious.

Anyways, back to the point, I agree with you on the fact this book does a great job of having kick ass moments like H.A.R.D. Corps coming in and bringing the pain – how intense was their assault sequence? – balanced with superb character moments. This book doesn’t lose (true) sight of what the individual components are, and it is a wrecking ball of awesome at this point.

I have to ask, did you have a favorite moment here?

Brandon: Stupid Spurs. Go Suns!

Yeah, I’d have to say my favorite moment was Shadow getting iced. That shit was heartless and cold. One to the dome and then the shooter is reminding everyone that they have to kill shot all of the psiots. I thought that was great. It just reinforced how hardcore the H.A.R.D. Corps really is. We knew some bodies had to drop soon but I gotta say that was a memorable way to take the opening shot.

What was your favorite moment?

David: Mine was a random one, as it was the discussion between faceless Bloodshot and the little kid psiot. I actually laughed as Bloodshot said “you are my least favorite” but in slurred “I don’t have a face” speech. All of that was amazing. I enjoyed the whole issue, but I really dug that.

Let’s talk art. Clayton Henry and Pere Perez, two stellar Valiant artists, took the reigns here, and I thought they were spectacular. I really dug the H.A.R.D. Corps sequences from an art standpoint as well, and I thought the scene you’re talking about stood out especially thanks to Henry’s work. I also thought they blended exceptionally well. What did you think of the work they did?

David: Absolutely. They really, really were, and Brian Reber was stellar on colors as per usual.

I had one more question for you: did this make you more excited for Bloodshot becoming Bloodshot & H.A.R.D. Corps?

Brandon: Not really. I am interested to see what the book will become but this didn’t make it more so. I still think it should be called Bloodshot and Gamma.

David: It definitely made me more so. I’m really digging the H.A.R.D. Corps so far, and I thought this issue did an awesome job of laying out who they are and what they’re all about. I’m really stoked to see them team up with Bloodshot and figure out how exactly that happens.

Anything else to add about this, my friend?

Brandon Are these guys the definite supporting cast of the book? I almost thought they would seed in some of the other players from Harbinger Wars. I literally have no clue what the new direction involves at all though.

David: They haven’t said exactly who will be on the team, but it will be some variation on the formula. It’s H.A.R.D. Corps related and won’t be the psiot kids or anything. So it’s yet to be seen how they come together or who will be there, but the ideas is it is those teams coming together.

What grade would you give this bad mamma jamma?

Brandon I would give this issue a solid 8.5. Really great stuff in this book.

What about you?

David: Exactly what I was thinking. It was a very enjoyable issue filled with fantastic character moments and great art. What’s not to like here? Looking forward to seeing how this concludes with the next issue.
