Hi folks! Welcome to our weekly recap of Archer’s third season, on the Multiversity Summer TV Binge 2021. This week’s episode is named “Crossing Over” and this time Nikolai Jakov defected from the KGB and is on the run, lets dive right in.
1. Archer is hungover
For a second time in a row, after last episode, Archer gets uncontrollably drunk again and this time he has a blackout and doesn’t remember much, the only thing he remembers is that he had the best sex he ever had.
As he tries to reconstruct last night’s events and belittles Woodhouse, he begins to remember that he was at the funeral of a fellow coworker, the event turned into a party and they ended up in a strip club, Woodhouse informs Archer that indeed the woman that he brought back home was still there and as Archer is about to meet her, he discovers that it was Pam.
2. Pam is a goddess of sex
Archer is very ashamed to say that he enjoyed having sex with Pam, well, not just enjoyed but it was the best he ever has, as I said before, Archer is an asshole and it’s not necessary to tell you weight doesn’t affect how people enjoy sex.
But this is a revelation for him, this makes him unfocused at his job, now that he can only think about Pam, Archer begins here a learning arc about enjoying sex without worrying about the other person’s image. Hopefully he will come out as a better person.
On the other side, is Pam enjoying having sex with Archer? Well she enjoys having sex, but Archer being her partner is not a noteworthy experience, despite having an athletic body and allegedly being good at it, for Pam it’s just regular intercourse.
3. Jakov is deflecting
Meanwhile, in Russia (or is it still the USSR?), Nikolai Jakov is relieved of his duties of head of the KGB, and now Barry the cyborg is on charge. He assigns the old leader to Siberia but is expecting for him to deflect and escape to the US with his lover, Malory.
And Jakov does exactly that, but Malory is still dating Burt Reynolds, although nobody has seen them together in a while, so instead of living with her, Jakov is forced to hide in a safehouse, but at least this is an opportunity to reconnect with his alleged son, Archer, if only he wouldn’t be focused on having sex with Pam.
4. Barry has a plan
Of course, the team have to take care of Jakov, they even go for a sleeper KGB agent, but Barry is planning something and he was very aware of what Nikolai would do, so he goes and searches for Cheryl and offers her sex in the safehouse.
Cheryl has a choking fetish and falls easily for Barry, but he is only seducing her because he knows that she will get him to Jakov, and she does.
5. Jakov crossed over… to the other life
Barry tells Jakov part of his plan, he has a bigger plan, but here he just want to make Archer crazy by erasing his possible father off the earth, and I mean literally, he is going to explode Jakov, leaving nothing for a possible DNA test, in hopes that Archer becomes crazy for not knowing his father.
At the end, Archer is on bed with Pam when he gets the call from Malory that Jakov is dead, and just when he starts to contemplate the reality of losing that chance, Pam brings him back to reality… by telling him that his sex wasn’t so good.
This is one of the best subversions that they do on this show, on the saddest, most sensible and vulnerable moments of their characters, someone says something that not only breaks the tension of the moment, but also diminishes the character and makes him more human.
Joke of the Week
Archer: You are not my dad!
Jakov: How would you know?
[Both laugh]
And that’s it for this episode, an important one, because we saw stories that continued over the show, like Pam and Archer’s sex adventures and Barry’s plans to kill Archer. What did you think of this episode? Leave your comments below and join us next week for our take on episode 311, “Skin Game”.
