Hi folks! Welcome the to our weekly recap of Archer’s third season, on the Multiversity Summer TV Binge 2021. This week’s episode is named “The Man from Jupiter” and I it features a special appearance by the late Burt Reynolds! My whole review was going to be “His laugh is perfect and it made this episode perfect” but that would break our classic style, so let’s dive right in.

1. Burt Reynolds is banging your mom

We begin with Archer at a bar being a womanizer, he is trying to get a threesome but, as usual, he is an asshole and loses the chance, which provokes the laughter of a nearby person, and when Archer confronts him, he discovers that Burt Reynolds is there!

Yes, that famous Burt Reynolds, the actor and director, Academy Award Nominee Burt Reynolds is sitting next to Archer, and he naturally reacts accordingly, his idol is right there. Obviously, Archer of course wants to spend the night talking to Burt Reynolds, but he has other plans, namely, having a date with Malory, to which Archer reacts by passing out.

2. A Cuban hit squad

Later, back in the office, Archer confronts his mother for dating and (evidently) having sex with his idol, to which Malory responds that she didn’t know… However, right now there are more important things to deal with.

Malory informs Archer that there’s a Cuban hit squad hunting him down, and she hadn’t informed him because of his usual voicemail pranks, which means he could be killed just because he annoyed Malory.

Of course, all of this could be a distraction for Archer, so he does the only reasonable think to do…

3. The McKlusky Trilogy

Did I say reasonable? I meant stupid, because he kidnapped Burt Reynolds.

He warns the actor to stop dating Malory, or else, Archer is going to do unspeakable things, to which Archer responds that he is not afraid of him, at all, and is willing to fight Archer if it’s necessary to keep dating his mother.

Archer tries to intimidate Burt Reynolds with a great threat: he’s going to knock him out, then he’s going to wake up in a mental hospital with amnesia under another name, to which Reynolds responds with enthusiasm. That’s a great plot for a movie, it even could be the missing chapter of “The McKlusky Trilogy”, adding it to White Lightning and Gator, but he is doing it without Archer’s help when he is saved by his ISIS coworkers.

4. Affirmative Action

Meanwhile at the office, Mallory receives a letter from “Burt” breaking up with her, and she is devastated to hear that he is with a younger woman, but Lana is not falling for it, she deduces exactly what Archer’s plan is and the team go to try to save the actor from his obsessed fan.

When they arrive to Archer’s penthouse, they end up stuck with getting Gillette out of the van, and they start fighting, Lana questions Ray’s capability as a spy now that he is in a wheelchair, and he responds with both racism and misogyny arguing that a black woman is a spy just because of Affirmative Action. Damn man, with him being a member of a minority group one would expect Gillette to be a little less biased, but I guess that he took offense with the team discouraging him.

While they are fighting, the Cuban hit squad spots Gillette, which looks like Archer back in Honeypot***, and they start a shootout and a car chase, and only Archer could save them.

5. Burt Reynolds is so f-ing awesome

Back in the penthouse, they hear the shots and Archer rushes to save his team, but they are too far away, so, Burt makes a bet, only he can reach them and if he does, he will keep dating Mallory, Archer agrees and they go rescue Lana and the others.

It is revealed that Burt drives awesomely, and while he uses the car to kill the bad guys and break the fourth wall, he talks to Archer, and argues that he needs to learn to let Malory live her own life, because she is “a whole person with hopes and dreams, not just his mother”. This resonates with Archer and maybe, just maybe, he will be more open to let Malory be a person other than a mom. Yeah, right.

This is funny because it’s deeply ironic that Burt Reynolds tries to convince Archer to be less involved in his mother’s life, while she is always smothering him, I mean, the last three episodes were an epic waste of resources just to get his boy back from wherever he was! I guess that love makes you blind.

Today I learned: A Pimm’s cup is a british drink made with Pimm’s liqueur, ginger ale, slices of cucumber and more. A Pimp’s cup is, well, a Cup that a Pimp uses.

Joke of the week: That whole interaction about the Bat Pole was hilarious:

Burt Reynolds: You should get a bat-pole.
Archer: Nine thousand bucks.
Burt: What?
Archer: Lowest quote I got.
Burt: Well that’s ridiculous.

And that’s it this week, it was a near perfect episode with hilarious jokes and a great premise while also being an excellent tribute to a classic Actor. What did you think of this episode?
