Hi folks! Welcome back to our weekly recap of The Flash. This week’s episode is Valentine’s-themed and it’s named “Love is a Battlefield,” it was weird to have villains as main characters, but the results were hilarious, let’s dive right in!
1. Allegra and Frost
So, this episode’s side-plot was kinda boring, a bonding exercise between Allegra and Frost, trying to repair the relationship between the former and his ex, only to discover that apologies must be placed first. This story was not important until the very end, when we are confirmed what last week’s episode teased: Nash feels a paternal connection to Allegra, because in his universe, he is his father.
2. The implications of Amunet knowing Flash’s identity
At the beginning of the episode, Iris wakes up in the McCulloch’s offices and runs, the morning after, she prepares juice and pancakes to a frightened Barry, but they turn out to be delicious, which is weird because Iris was a terrible chef.
Then, in the night, while they are having dinner, Amunet Black appears in the restaurant and steal a UV Light gizmo, yes, an important object was being “protected” in a restaurant. The important thing is that Iris and Barry try to stop her, but she knows Flash’s identity and threatens them to expose him if they attempt to arrest them. I honestly can’t remember when did Amunet learn about Barry’s identity but it’s an interesting development to have a villain living in the world knowing who’s Flash and only using it for the convenience of stealing things instead of attempting to kill him, how dangerous can she be with that information? (Spolier: not much)
3. In the field
Then, Barry and Iris make stakeouts to try to discover what Amunet is planning and why is she fighting with his ex, Goldface. Iris takes the lead on a mission and breaks a bottle in someone’s head, which grants her the trust of the barman? I don’t think that’s how it works but hey, I’ve never fought with someone like that.
Then, they go to another location and while Amunet and Goldface fight both verbally and physically, Iris manages to steal the second device they were looking for. Back at home, Iris confronts Barry because, reasons? It was teased on the midseason premier trailer but it seemed weird to me, they had a reasonably good relationship last episode and this one began with breakfast and a date, but then later Iris explains her reasons, she has “grown” since she had to prepare for Barry’s death in the Crisis, and she is starting to be a little independent, which is totally valid.
4. Amunet v. Goldface: Dawn of Love
The weird thing is that she comes to Amunet, and offers the device to Amunet in exchange to working together, turns out that the villain is looking for a plant that has a pollen that, if treated, can be used to read minds, she wants it to steal easier and Iris wants it to read Barry’s mind, man! That escalated quickly!
So, they go to where the plant is and Goldface appears and they start to fight, Iris is caught in the crossfire and Flash shaves her, Iris tells him to burn the plant, therefore releasing the pollen, so the villains read each other’s’ mind and discover that they are still in love. Goldface and Amunet had hilarious chemistry this episode, I didn’t even know that they were dating but the results were incredibly funny, I laughed at the ridiculousness of the thing for a long time.
5. Evil Iris? Porca Miseria!
At the end, Barry and Iris make peace, and they are in love again, to be honest, I think it’s healthy to show that even the “perfect” couple of the Arrowverse have problems, healthy relationships also fight, the important thing is that they talk to each other, dialogue is key to solve every bump on the way and I’m happy that they showed it on TV, and everything ended in a hug.
Wait! The real Iris is trapped on a mirror? Never mind everything I wrote! She’s a doppelganger and has occult intentions! What is the female Mirror Master planning? How did she knew all about Barry and Iris’ relationship? What a great cliffhanger!

And that’s it for this episode, a really funny exploration of relationships, weather is between villains or heroes, we learned that dialogue is always key. What did you think of this episode?
