Vera Brosgol is a storyboard and concept artist for the stop motion animation studio LAIKA. In terms of comics work, she occasionally does hourly comics on her Twitter account, and she’s done guest comics for Scary Go Round, and… Oh, that’s right! She also did an Eisner-winning comic called Anya’s Ghost.
I hope she’ll do more comics in the future because Anya’s Ghost won me over immediately. Anya Borzakovskaya’s a great character drawn with very few lines, but very expressive lines. I like artwork that’s distilled down like that. That and her pacing is just right for each emotional or comic beat. Anya’s Ghost is an effortless read because of it, and I seem to get sucked in again when I take a peek at the pages. But the stuff she does the best is isolation with little to no dialogue (or at least that’s the stuff I enjoy the most).
Check out more of her work on her website and you can follow her on Twitter.

This exchange was when the book swept me off my feet.
