There are a lot of comics out there but some stand out head and shoulders above the pack. With “Don’t Miss This,” we want to spotlight those series we think need to be on your pull list. This week, we take a look at DC Comics’s “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”

Who’s This By?
This is a big question. “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” is created and overseen by some of the best creators working today. With one-offs and continuing miniseries in each issue we are getting new work from a multitude of writers and artists such as Tom King, Mitch Gerads, Clayton Cowles, Christopher Cantwell, Dan Mora, Ed Brisson, Jeff Spokes, Javier Rodriguez, Joelle Jones, Simon Bowland, Steve Wands, Saida Temofonte, Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Jorge Molina, Rob Leigh, Pat Brosseau, Dennis Culver, Otto Schmidt, Pierluigi Casolino, and others! It is an absolutely stacked creative team doing some really tremendous work. Every name on this list is someone who has put out something spectacular or has a true wealth of material to check out. TO have them all working on a fun anthology such as this is quite the feat. If you are a fan of any of them it would be hard to not recommend this miniseries.

What’s This All About?
Being an anthology this comic is about quite a few things. Batman on the hunt for criminals, Jim Gordon protecting prominent Gothamites from the Joker, heroes and villains of DC comics’s future, even Superman has to show up to save the day within this Batman title. It’s a hodge podge of different styles and story types all set within the DC universe we all know and love. High flying tales of adventure or nasty, gritty mysteries. There is a little bit of something for everyone in “Batman: The Brave and the Bold.”

So, Why Should I Read This?
The variety and talent behind it, of course! But aside from that this is an anthology that works a little differently than others. While some of the issues have one-shot tales, the majority of this series has been continuing storylines, allowing for a comic strip style that keeps you coming back each month to see how things will turn out. It is a fun format that isn’t typically seen in this kind of book, so while it’s fun to get some new material each week, getting a chance to revisit an existing adventure or mystery has been a real treat. Also, seeing a slew of characters that are rarely used in a big title like “Batman” is a great experience as well.

Like with most anthologies, not everything within these pages is going to be everyone’s cup of tea, myself included, but the majority of the work will definitely appeal to most readers. And there isn’t a single story or idea in these issues that isn’t at least interesting and all of the works are executed with true power and talent behind them. So while something may not work for you personally, nothing about any of the stories is bad. The best thing about this series is that anyone can jump onto it. It is an easy read for anyone, whether you are a series collector or just looking for a new comic to pass the time. It’s only blockade is that you need to pick up every issue so that you can actually complete some of the stories. “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” is a perfect example of a comic series that pretty much anyone can pick up, so don’t miss this!
