Much like her predecessor, Karen Berger, when Shelly Bond was let go from DC, she went on to launch her own line of comics at a new publisher. Teaming up with IDW, she created Black Crown Comics, the “cross street of comics + chaos,” a place where “characters commingle and corrupt.” Now, more information about the forthcoming titles has been revealed.
The venture kicks off in October with “Kid Lobotomy” by Peter Milligan and Tess Fowler. (This series was announced in March.) The series focuses on Kid, a hotelier who performs lobotomies on unsuspecting hotel guests. Like if M. Gustave had more in common with Hannibal.
Other titles include “Punks Not Dead” from David Barnett and Martin Simmonds. It’s a classic story of a young man raised by a single mother who goes looking for his absent father. Only that MI5 is also pursuing him while is receiving spiritual guidance from the ghost of Sid Vicious. “Punks Not Dead” is set to hit comic shelves in January 2018.
Finally, Black Crown also announced a six-issue miniseries from Tini Howard and Gilbert Hernandez. “Assassinistas” follows Octavia, an “ex-hitwoman who comes out of retirement to pay for her son’s college tuition,” as well as rescue some kidnapped kid. She also forces her son and his boyfriend to help her out and continue the legacy.
In addition to the solo titles, Black Crown revealed they will also be publishing a new 48-page anthology of “all things comics, culture, and cool” called “Black Crown Quarterly.” Trying to move beyond comics, the compendium will feature posters, music connections via CUD, maps, photos, and so much more. Each segment leads with material from Rob Davis.
All the titles under the Black Crown Publishing colophon are creator-owned.
