On the second-to-last day of their Road to San Diego spotlight, BOOM! Studios announced they’ve acquired the license to Cartoon Network’s Ben 10, and that they’ll be releasing a series of graphic novels set within the world of the show’s 2016 reboot.
The first of these graphic novels, “Ben 10: The Truth Is Out There,” will be written by Rainbow Award-winning novelist C.B. Lee (Not Your Sidekick) and feature interior art from Lidan Chen, with a cover by Ling Chen. In an interview with Animation Magazine, Lee laid out what excites her about writing Ben and his family.
“It’s been fantastic to work with the Ben 10 team and be able to bounce ideas and watch the story grow and evolve with everyone’s input,” said Lee. “I’m really inspired by the show itself. Ben 10, at its heart, is an utterly delightful romp with aliens and family and friendship. I’m hoping to … continue to tell these fun stories in a new medium.”
“The Truth Is Out There” will tell a one-off story set squarely within Ben’s summer vacation travels, featuring Ben, his cousin Gwen, and his grandpa Max traveling cross-country in the ever-reliable Rust Bucket. “There will be hijinks, there will be aliens, and there is going to be a lot of fun,” said BOOM! Editor Whitney Leopard.
“Ben 10: The Truth Is Out There” will release in March 2019, both in print and online. It will be the latest in the long line of comics based on the cartoon, which have been published by DC, IDW and Scholastic, among others.
