BOOM! Studios have revealed, at CBR, that the reboot for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” will be written by Jordie Bellaire (“Redlands”) and be illustrated by Dan Mora (“Klaus”), with the original TV series’ creator Joss Whedon serving as story consultant. Matthew Taylor will provide the main cover art for the series, with Kevin Wada, Royal Dunlap, Becca Carey and Jen Bartel all set to be producing variant covers.

The official synopsis for the series establishes that the series will feature the “Buffy Summers you know” as well as the Scooby Gang of “Giles, Willow, Xander, Cordelia and more,” but that it will take place in a modern world that will look “a lot more like the one outside your window.”

Bellaire described being involved with Buffy, a series that has brought so much joy to her, as “ridiculously overwhelming on many levels,” and insisted that, while the series will tread new ground, she wants to “explore older [stories] and forever maintain the theme of self discovery and growing up.” Mora echoed similar sentiments in describing his excitement at “reimagining and redesigning the world of Buffy for a modern era” whilst also “honoring its exciting history.”

Finally, Executive Editor Jeanine Schaefer added that “Whether you’re a long time member of the Scooby Gang or totally new to the world of the Chosen One, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ #1 was made for you.”

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” #1 will be in stores on January 9.
