New details and a creative team announcement were revealed this morning at NYCC at Marvel’s private retailer panel about the two new “X-Men”-related series revealed yesterday “Rogue & Gambit” and “Legion.” Kelly Thompson and Pere Perez were revealed to be the creative team on “Rogue & Gambit” with covers by Kris Anka and the now miniseries will launch in January and run five-issues. No creative team on “Legion” was announced, but that series will launch in February and also be a five-issue miniseries, and was described by editor Christina Harrington as a “journey to the center of Legion”
Kelly Thompson is currently writing the Kate Bishop “Hawkeye” series for Marvel and is continuing on into ‘Legacy.’ She’s also currently writing the “Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Captain Phasma” miniseries and has previously written “A-Force” for the company and “Jem and the Holograms” at IDW. Pere Perez is perhaps best known for his work at Valiant Comics on titles like “Archer & Armstrong” with Fred Van Lante as part of the company’s reboot in 2012, as well as “Ivar, Timewalker” and “Unity,” as well as work at DC on “Action Comics” and “Batgirl” with Bryan Q. Miller.
The question at this point is are these series part of the ResurrXion initiative Marvel touted pre-‘Legacy,’ and how connected to the questions of ‘Legacy’ both will be going forward. Are they leading to a Legion-centric event in 2018 in time for the second season of Legion on FX? Only time will tell!
