In case you missed it, BOOM! announced an adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s “Slaughterhouse Five” by Ryan North and Albert Monteys, and the Smithsonian Institution and IDW Publishing announced their plans for educational graphic novels.

AIPT announced a new ‘Web of Venom’ one-shot focused on Wraith, which will be written by Donny Cates, with the interior art team yet to be announced. Kyle Hotz will be providing the cover artwork. The one-shot will see the cosmic gunslinger given the opportunity to face his target, Knull, the God of Symbiotes, in “the wastelands on the outskirts of the cosmos.” “Web of Venom: Wraith” will be released in April.

– Donny Cates also revealed that the screenplay for the film adaptation of his and Geoff Shaw’s graphic novel, “God Country,” was “in the can.” An adaptation of the graphic novel was first announced in October 2018, with Legendary Entertainment and AfterShock Media developing the film. At this stage, there isn’t a director attached to the film, with a release date not yet announced.

– AJ Dungo was awarded with one of France’s top graphic novel prizes, the BD Fnac/France Inter prize, for “In Waves.” Dungo’s debut graphic novel tells the story of his relationship with his late partner, Kristen Tuason, a surfing fanatic, who died of bone cancer at the age of 25 in 2016. The graphic novel also incorporates the history of surfing, including the sport’s Hawaiian pioneers and Tom Blake’s revolutionary board design.

– Colleen Doran revealed that three pieces of her artwork have been chosen for an upcoming exhibition at the Society of Illustrators. The chosen pieces were from “A Distant Soil,” “Snow, Glass, Apples” and “Wonder Woman” #750. The exhibition for which Doran’s work has been chosen hasn’t yet been detailed, with Doran only stating that the curator is Kim Munson. You can view the three chosen pieces here.

– Netflix released the official trailer for the upcoming series Locke and Key, an adaptation of the IDW series of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez. You can check out the trailer here. The trailer depicts the Locke family moving into their ancestral home following the death of their father, only to discover that there are multiple “amazing keys” within the house which can grant them special powers and abilities. After the trailer ends, viewers are directed to RendellLockeIsDead.com, which gives fans a chance to watch the first scene of the series. Locke and Key season one is set to premiere on Netflix on February 7.

– Netflix also released the first trailer for season one of October Faction, which you can watch here. The series, also based on the IDW series by Steve Niles and Damien Worm, stars J.C. MacKenzie and Tamara Taylor as Fred and Deloris Allen, a globetrotting, monster hunting couple who return to their hometown in New York with their children (Aurora Burghart and Gabriel Darku) after the death of Fred’s father. The show debuts on the streaming service on January 23.

– The nominees for the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which recognize a variety of media for their representations of the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community, were announced, including three comic book adaptations as well as nine comic books in their own category. Batwoman and Supergirl were nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, while Watchmen‘s “This Extraordinary Being” was nominated for Outstanding Individual Episode (in a series w/o a regular LGBTQ character). “Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me,” “Liebestrasse” and “Runaways” were all included in the Outstanding Comic Book category. There will be two award ceremonies for this year’s nominees, with the first taking place on March 19 in New York, followed by a second on April 16 in Los Angeles. The full list of nominees can be found here.
