– Comic Con International announced that they have formed a partnership between their upcoming Comic-Con@Home and the UK’s Thought Bubble conventions. Due to the global outbreak of COVID-19, both of this year’s events have been cancelled and replaced by online equivalents. Through the partnership, they will deliver content at each convention, with the companies announcing ‘Thought Bubble & Comic-Con@Home: Tula Lotay in Conversation’ for the upcoming Comic-Con@Home. The segment will see Laura Jones interview artist and Thought Bubble founder Lisa Wood, aka Tula Lotay, about how she started in the industry, the motivation and process behind Thought Bubble, and what else we can expect from the partnership of the two conventions. Comic-Con@Home is scheduled to take place between July 22-26, with Thought Bubble Digital Comic Con on November 14-15.

– A new nine-part webcomic called “Planet DIVOC-91,” which was funded by the UK’s top medical science organizations, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Institute for Health Research, was announced via press release. The series will be an “offbeat sci-fi satire” that follows Sanda Oung, a 23-year-old girl from the UK, and Champo Oung, her 19-year-old non-binary sibling, when all humans aged 16-25 are moved to another planet due to the Earth being at risk from an extinction-level event. It will play host to multiple different creative teams, with the first chapter being a collaborative effort by Sara Kenney (“Surgeon X”), Charlie Adlard (“The Walking Dead”), James Devlin, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. The cover art for each chapter will be provided by a range of artists, including Marco Finnegan, Leslie Hung, and Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, with Elsa Charretier providing the one for the first. Every chapter in the series will be interspersed with articles, videos, and other artwork by young adults relating to COVID-19. The first chapter of “Planet DIVOC-91” is set to be released on Webtoon on July 15.

– Saladin Ahmed tweeted that Marvel’s ‘Outlawed’ storyline is set to continue in October with the release of Eve L. Ewing and Simone Di Meo’s “Champions” #1. Ahmed continued, saying the events of “Champions” #1, “ripples out to slugfests and school protests in ‘Miles Morales: Spider-Man’ #19 and Kamala playing The Fugitive in ‘The Magnificent Ms. Marvel’ #15!” The ‘Outlawed’ storyline started in its own eponymous one-shot back in March, and was set to continue through April’s titles, which were delayed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the impact that had on the comic book Direct Market. The previously announced new titles being relaunched as part of the storyline, “Power Pack” and “New Warriors,” have not been rescheduled at this time.

– Following its cancellation last week, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the creator of Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, has revealed that Part Five of the series would have been called ‘Witch War,’ and crossed over with the CW’s Riverdale. He stated that the story would be continued in his comic book series, also named “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” and shared some promotional artwork, which you can see here. Netflix will release the series’ final eight episodes later this year. In other Archieverse TV news, the BBC have acquired the UK rights to the recently cancelled Katy Keene, the only season of which will be released there on iPlayer on July 25.

THR revealed a TV spinoff from the upcoming Matt Reeves-directed film, The Batman, is in development at HBO Max. The series, which is as yet untitled, will chronicle the work of the Gotham City Police Department, with Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) set to write and executive produce the series. At this stage there hasn’t been any casting for the series, and it is unclear whether any of the stars of the film, such as Robert Pattinson’s Batman or Jeffrey Wright’s James Gordon, will make appearances in the show. The Batman is scheduled for release on October 1, 2021. There is no release date for the series at this time.

– In an interview discussing the potential for a sequel to Netflix’s recently released The Old Guard, the film’s lead, Charlize Theron, said a sequel is a “possibility,” and revealed an Atomic Blonde sequel is in the works. The development of an Atomic Blonde sequel started after she spoke to Scott Stuber, the head of Original Films at Netflix, about it, with the writing process taking place “right now.” The 2017 film, Atomic Blonde, was an adaptation of Antony Johnston and Sam Hart’s “The Coldest City,” which was published by Oni Press in 2012. The Old Guard is based on the comic series of the same name by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández.

Deadline reported that Apple Studios acquired the rights to Snow Blind, an adaptation of the graphic novel by Ollie Masters and Tyler Jenkins. The graphic novel follows Teddy, a high school student who posts a photo of his dad online, only to discover he and his family are in a Witness Protection Program, and that he has given away their location to a man seeking revenge. Jake Gyllenhaal will star in the adaptation, with Gustav Möller (The Guilty) set to direct his first English-language film. Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls) will write the script. Gyllenhaal and his Nine Stories partner Riva Marker will produce the film alongside BOOM! Studios’ Ross Richie and Stephen Christy, with Mette Norkjaer rounding out the team of producers. There isn’t a release date for the project yet.

– Shudder released the first trailer for Random Acts of Violence, a film adaptation of Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, Giancarlo Caracuzzo and Paul Mounts’s 2010 graphic novel. The horror film, directed by Jay Baruchel and starring Jesse Williams, Jordana Brewster, and Baruchel, follows a comic book creator who discovers his comic, “Slasherman,” has inspired a series of copycat murders. You can watch the regular trailer here, and the red band trailer here. The film will be released online and in theaters in Canada on July 31, and on Shudder on August 20, 2020.

– Amazon Prime released a trailer for the upcoming Marie Curie biopic, Radioactive, which is based on Lauren Redniss’s graphic novel, “Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout.” Rosamund Pike portrays Marie Curie in the film, with Marjane Satrapi (“Persepolis”) directing. The film had originally been scheduled for theatrical release earlier this year, but was delayed due to the outbreak of COVID-19. It is now scheduled for release on Amazon Prime Video on July 24. You can watch the trailer here.

– Finally, Hasbro unveiled its newest design for the Marvel Legends action figure line, in the form of a 26.30-inch Sentinel figure, which is the largest ever addition to the line. The figure will have 260 individual pieces, 72 points of articulation, and LED lights in its eyes and chest. In order to manufacture the figure, Hasbro has launched a HasLab campaign, with the figure being available for $349.99. The crowdfunding campaign has already reached its minimum number of backers (6,000) and will continue until 11:59 p.m. EST on August 24.
