'Demon Slayer' Vol. 23
(Japanese cover)

– Per Anime News Network, the 23rd and final volume of Koyoharu Gotouge’s “Demon Slayer” will feature a brand new, 14-page epilogue. “Demon Slayer” (“Kimetsu no Yaiba” in Japanese), ran from February 2016 to May 2020 in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, and tells the story of a young boy who becomes a demon slayer, after his family is slaughtered and his younger sister is turned into one of the monsters. The manga has broken records in print, and at the movie theater, after this year’s Demon Slayer: Mugen Train became the third highest-grossing film in Japanese history. The trade paperback, which will be released in Japanese next week, is due out in English on July 21, 2021.

– Yesterday’s Google Doodle was illustrated by West Yorkshire-based cartoonist Nicole Miles, and celebrated the 95th birthday of Frank Bailey, a Guyanese-British firefighter believed to have been the first Black firefighter in London. You can read more about Bailey, and a Q&A with Miles, at Google’s archive.

– Silvergate Media and Mercury Filmworks announced Hilda season 2 will be finally released on Netflix on December 14. The animated series, based on the graphic novels by Luke Pearson, follows the magical adventures of the titular Norwegian girl, and was one of our favorite comic book-inspired TV shows of 2018. The producers also released a new song, “The Life of Hilda,” performed by lead actress Bella Ramsey.

– A new music video for the Kinks song “Lola” was released, to mark the 50th anniversary of the album Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One. Designed by British comic strip creators Chris Garratt and Mick Kidd (“Biff”), the video can be watched here; the 50th anniversary edition of the album will be released on December 11, 2020.

Samurai Jack and Primal creator Genndy Tartakovsky shared concept art for an unrealized Superman project on Instagram. “Once upon a time I was asked to do some Superman short cartoons… and well as sometimes these things go, it went away. But here are some never before seen drawings.” Season 2 of Primal will premiere next year.

– Finally, Radio Times revealed a poster for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special, “Revolution of the Daleks,” featuring a new Dalek design. The new design appears to be that of the Recon Dalek introduced in “Resolution,” albeit made from shiny, matte-black components, instead of spare parts. “Revolution of the Daleks,” which will also feature the return of John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, will air sometime in late 2020/early 2021.
