– Penguin Young Readers announced their graphic novel lineup for 2022, expanding on the previously announced first installment of “Neverlanders” by Tom Taylor and artist Jon Sommariva. The first addition is “Danger and Other Unknown Risks,” from the team behind “The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl,” writer Ryan North and artist Erica Henderson, which will see protagonist Marguerite de Pruitt and her dog Daisy traversing a new world that has been established following the end of the old one, only things aren’t exactly the same; the pair set out to restore normality.

The second addition, “Coven,” by the creative team of writer Jennifer Dugan and artist Kit Seaton, will follow Emsy, a queer young witch who has to switch California for New York with her family after their coven is murdered by dark forces. In New York, Emsy finds herself surrounded by witches who are far more conservative, and alongside the inherent difficulties this brings, Emsy has to learn to better control her powers to find out who murdered her coven and protect her family. “Coven” is scheduled for publication on September 6, 2022, with “Danger and Other Unknown Risks” currently without a specific date in 2022.

– Marvel Comics launched their latest Infinity Comics series, “Spider-Bot,” by writer Jordan Blum, artist Alberto Alburquerque, and colorist Dono Sanchez-Almara. Blum described the series as exploring the Marvel Universe “through the digital eyes of the Spider-Bots,” with issue #1 seeing the Spider-Bots being deployed to get Spider-Man a sandwich from Rocky’s deli, although the order is actually meant to be for The Thing. The first chapter of “Spider-Bot” is available exclusively via Marvel Unlimited now, with the remaining eleven set to be released weekly on Fridays.

– In further Marvel news, the publisher unveiled more details about the upcoming “Death of Doctor Strange: Bloodstone” #1, specifically that it will introduce the long-long sister of Elsa and Cullen Bloodstone, Lyra. Lyra has her own powers that are distinguished from the other Bloodstone siblings, with a “unique Blood gem” that has made her the target of many different evil forces. As part of the reveal, Marvel released the covers for the one-shot, including one-shot artist Ig Guara’s design variant spotlighting Lyra; you can check out the cover as well as David Nakayama’s version here.

– Amazon Prime Video announced Diabolical, an animated spinoff of The Boys. Consisting of eight episodes, the series will feature different stories from The Boys‘ universe written by the comics’ co-creator Garth Ennis, as well as Awkwafina, Eliot and Ilana Glazer, Simon Racioppa, Justin Roiland and Ben Bayouth, Andy Samberg, Aisha Tyler, and co-producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Executive producer Eric Kripke declared, “We gathered together some incredible creators and we gave them one rule… just kidding, there’s no rules. They blew the doors off it, delivering eight completely unexpected, funny, shocking, gory, moist, emotional episodes. You think The Boys is nuts? Wait till you see this.” The series will debut sometime next year.

THR revealed that Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid), and Celeste Ballard (Space Jam: A New Legacy) have joined Warner Animation Group’s upcoming DC Comics adaptation, The Metal Men. The report detailed that Clements and Musker are “producing and have written the treatment for the film,” and are also interested in directing the adaptation. Craig Peck is serving as an executive producer for the film. For those unfamiliar with the characters, in the comics the Metal Men are six highly intelligent robots that have powers and personalities that correspond to the metals they are made from; all six were created by scientist William Magnus. The Metal Men does not currently have a release date.

Batman: The Animated Series is set to return as an audio drama, according to original voice cast actors Kevin Conroy and John Glover, who voiced Batman and the Riddler respectively. The reveal came as part of the ‘History of the Batman’ panel at Los Angeles Comic Con, with Conroy stating that “it’s a great script by Alan Burnett,” who wrote the original series, and that “it brings back the original cast,” as well as its theme composer, Danny Elfman. Plot details about the audio drama came from Glover, who said “The Riddler’s back, and he’s evolved in many ways… He understands he’s on the spectrum.” It is not yet clear what platform the audio drama will debut on, with a confirmation of that and other potentially returning cast members likely to be included in the audio drama’s official announcement in the future.

– Netflix have released a trailer for Hilda and the Mountain King which is set to premiere on December 30. The film continues from the end of the second season of Hilda, with the trailer showing Hilda realizing that she has been transformed into a troll, and trying to adapt to her new life, even if it might be reversible; meanwhile, a troll has replaced her in her human life. The film retains the series’ director, Andy Coyle, and its voice cast, including Bella Ramsey as Hilda. The film will adapt the sixth and final entry in Luke Pearson’s “Hilda” graphic novel series, and it is unclear what the future of the Hilda franchise holds beyond the film. You can check out the trailer here.

– Finally, the latest installment of The Atlantic‘s ‘The Friendship Files’ features a discussion with the frequent collaborators Mitch Gerads, Tom King, Clay Mann, and Evan “Doc” Shaner. In the interview the group detail how they each met each other, how their friendships have been a huge support in a professional capacity as well as a personal one, and how the overlap affects each capacity too; King states “When I’m talking to an editor, whatever makes these guys’ lives the best is what I want to happen… The editor always wants things to be done faster. But if you give these guys room, you’re going to get the best work.” You can read the full interview at The Atlantic.
