IDW has unveiled a pair of new comics in their Transformers line that are set to take the franchise into both familiar and unfamiliar territory – and bring some fan-favorite creators along for the ride. Via ScreenRant, the new miniseries “Transformers: Shattered Glass” and “Transformers: King Grimlock” are set for release later this summer.

“Transformers: Shattered Glass” comes from writer Danny Lore (“James Bond,” “Champions”), with art from longtime Transformers pencilers Guido Guidi and Dan Khanna, and John-Paul Bove (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) on colors. The name will sound familiar to Transformers fans, as the miniseries dives into the alternate universe where the Decepticons are the heroes and the Autobots are the villains. Covers for the first issue come from Alex Milne (“Transformers vs. The Terminator”) and from Khanna, with a retailer incentive variant by Sara Pitre-Durocher (“Transformers: Till All Are One”).

Meanwhile, writer Steve Orlando (“Wonder Woman,” “Commanders in Crisis”), artist Agustin Padilla (“Dungeons and Dragons”) and colorist Jeremy Colwell (“The Bequest”) are taking the Dinobot Grimlock on a sword and sorcery adventure for “Transformers: King Grimlock.”

“‘King Grimlock’ is a sky-high dream come to life, a story so big and wild, I wasn’t sure if the Transformers universe could contain it,” Orlando said in a press release. The “epic barbarian fantasy” places Grimock in a world where power is dictated by who is strongest with a sword. Fittingly, Cary Nord (“Conan the Barbarian”) provides the 1A cover for the first issue, with a 1B cover from Padilla and a retailer incentive variant from Mateus Santolouco (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder in Hell”).

ScreenRant also offered updates on the two ongoing Transformers titles, both of which have new arcs to meet the launch of these new miniseries. “Transformers” #34 from the continuing creative team of Brian Ruckley and Anna Malkova kicks off the ‘Sea of Rust’ arc, which sees Megatron at odds with his former mentor Tegamax at the beginning of the war for Cybertron. Meanwhile, “Transformers: Beast Wars” #7 by Erik Burnham and Winston Chan will spark the storyline ‘Pod,’ and see the reintroduction of the classic femme fatale Blackarachina.

IDW has published Transformers comics since picking up the license from the bankrupt Dreamwave Productions back in 2005. The publisher rebooted the line with a brand new continuity back in 2019.

The new miniseries and story arcs all roll out this August.
