Hi folks! Welcome the to our weekly recap of Archer on the Multiversity Summer TV Binge 2019. This week’s episode is named “Dial M for Mother” and BLABLABLA! Let’s dive right in.

1. Archer’s Dad a.k.a. “The Mamma Mia dilemma”

In this episode Malory reveals that there’s not a “Black Jack” Archer, the father of Sterling is actually unknown, mainly because she pulled a “Mamma Mia” and three guys might be Archer’s father: KGB’s Jakov, ODIN’s Trexler or famous drummer Buddy Rich.

Naturally, Archer does not take the news well and goes drinking to a tavern only to be 86’d and kidnapped by Mannfred and Uta. I mean, if I discovered that my father never existed and instead my mother might have don treason by banging a Russian asset, I would also go crazy.

2. Lana’s vengeance

Meanwhile after they post a ban on love/sex relationships in the office, Pam decides to find someone to have sex before the ban begins. And Lana decides to take revenge on Cyril after cheating on her, she offers everyone at the office to have sex with her, but she’s doing it for money and to make Cyril suffer.

Turns out that she doesn’t want to really bang everyone, instead she asks for the money and she allows everybody to lie that they did indeed had sex with her. Which might be a bad idea, but she knows that nobody will ever admit that they didn’t had sex with her. The only one lucky enough was Pam, because a combination of luck and pity.

3. Jakov

Mannfred and Uta kidnapped Archer following orders from Jakov, who is angry at Malory because Archer might not be his son. His plan is to implant a chip on Archer, make him kill his mother and travel to mother Russia to get an DNA exam and discover if he is in fact Jakov’s son. But there’s a problem, the technology is not ready yet.

So, his plan is frustrated because the window to mind control Archer is extremely narrow, and cellphones wreck Archer’s mind. So, he goes out with his mind broken looking to kill his mother…

4. Voicemail / Bonding

This is it; this is the best detail of the season: we are at last introduced to the voicemail running gag! And it happens when Archer is suffering because of the ringing cellphone. In fact, his killing instinct activates when Malory uses her phone.

Archer tries to kill his mother while rememorating a time where she left him out of her bedroom when he was a kid, Malory is forced to shoot him and while he is on the floor, they start talking about their relationship, she tells him that she was always there for him, without the need for a father and they make peace for at least some seconds, enjoying their time together, while Archer agonizes in the floor.

5. What’s next for Archer

This was a great introduction to the characters and the dynamic of the series, and it will only evolve from here, with better dialogue, better stories and a deeper writing style that just marvels anybody when hearing the awesome rhythm of the series.

Archer will suffer from cancer, their agency will be destroyed, they will become drug dealers, they become astronauts, Archer will almost die every season, and he will be in a coma, recovering on 40’s-inspired Dreamland, a Danger Island at WWII and the far future of 1999. The series has many sets, many stories and always an excellent script to laugh your face off.

Joke of the week:

Gillete: If you told every guy the same thing, then they all know that none of them had sex with you, so they’re all gonna realize they’re all lying.
Brett: Wait a minute.
Lana: But, remember, they’re dudes.
Brett: Um, I had sex with Lana.
Guy: Me too.

BONUS: Ten absolutely worthless facts I learned rewatching this season:
1. “Greek” is slang for anal in classified ads in newspapers.
2. “Honeypot” is a spy technique where you seduce your target.
3. “Quadroon” is an incredibly uncomfortable old-time term that means that a person was a quarter African and three quarter European.

4. When Dan Rather was assaulted in 1986, his attacker kept repeating “”Kenneth, what is the frequency?”… WTF?
5. Saltillo tile is a type of tile from the town of the same name. I live in Monterrey, its neighbor town is Saltillo
6. “Lampshade hanging” is using an element in the story that is not justified or plausible.
7. There’s something called the NATO phonetic alphabet, Charlie Oscar Oscar Lima.
8. “Bread and Roses”, a slogan related to the textile strike of 1912
9. Framboise is French for raspberry
10. Steuben is a very expensive glassware company

And that’s it for this episode, overall, a very enjoyable season, and I hope I interested you in the series enough to become a fan if you haven’t watched it before. What did you think of this episode? Leave your comments below and thank you, very much for reading my recaps on the Multiversity Summer Binge.

And remember! Archer is awake again and he will be back in season 11, but we will have to wait a whole year, in the meantime, you have nine other seasons to enjoy!
