Hi folks! Welcome to our weekly recap of Archer on the Multiversity Summer TV Binge 2019. The episode for this week is named “The Rock” and the operatives finally realize the importance of the administrative and intel team, or so it seems… Let’s dive right in!

1. Helping San Marino

This episode begins with Archer and Lana infiltrating the San Marino palace, where they do every step to steal a diamond, in order to tell the government their faults and get hired. Of course Archer messes with Lana, telling her to keep quiet but then his cellphone starts ringing with his classic “Mulatto Butts” ringtone.

Of course, it’s Malory micromanaging and open the cabinet and… leave the diamond there. Surely, with all that information, San Marino will hire them to be their security consultants, right?

2. Champagne-colored diamond

Meanwhile, Cyril tells Pam that he is planning to propose to Lana, but his ring, with a brown diamond is awful, and it cost him two months of salary! Of course that prompts a conversation about how they are paid less than they deserve and they propose to unionize, if Malory lets them, last time someone tried to unionize they died on an elevator “accident”.

The other thing about getting married to Lana, overcompsnsation much? Of course, after he cheats on her, multiple times, he wants to “secure” their relationship by bringing it a step further, of course, at the end of the day the ring is lost and Lana would obviously sad no to him, but one cannot stop thinking about his actions. Folks, be honest with your partners, liying to them and getting married to “save” the relationship is a low move.

3. The strike

So, the strike goes on and they go out and form a picket line… against the laundry shop? Well they can’t say they are striking against a secret spy agency upstairs. Weirdly enough the plans don’t work for them and they got attacked by people angry at their strike.

At first it was weird to me the idea of people angry at other people for wanting better living conditions, am I right? I mean, everybody deserves a dignified life. But of course, I was being naïve, of course people get angry, they question the need of a union and frame it as a “socialist ploy”, this episode is as true today as it was ten years ago, just a couple of weeks ago, you could see people angry at Amazon employees because the mere possibility of getting their products in *gasp* three days?! “That’s so unfair! I want my membership to be effective, I don’t care if you get paid $11 an hour!”

4. Fucking with San Marino

Turns out San Marino indeed takes ISIS advice, which was involuntarily free and then they hired Odin, the agency led by Trexler, and old ex-lover of Malory. She gets furious and sends Lana and Archer back to re-steal the diamond, but they delay the mission because they don’t have the proper intel, nor weapons, nor gadgets, not even means of transportation.

So, they leave, and while they are trying to make a plan to get in, Lana gets mad at Archer and their cover is blown, just like Archer’s eyes thanks to the night-vision googles.

5. Taking the drones for granted

Back at the office, well, the laundry, the office team is trying to negotiate with Malory, who is trapped in the elevator and naked. When they get a call from Archer, who tells them that the mission failed and they need evac.

At first they are reticent to save them, but they realize only they can save them and fix up a radio to send a rescue chopper, but, before they send the signal, they practically hold Archer and Lana hostage to get their “cost of living adjustment”, Lana agrees to stop getting bonuses and Malory accepts. Hell yeah! The Patron lost, long live the drones, necessary for any workplace to work!

Joke of the week: Krieger: “Yes! Confederacy forever!”… umm, that’s not what they meant when they said they were against “the Union”.

And that’s it for this episode, a great representation of laboring and dignified living, as necessary ten years ago as it is today. What did you think of this episode? Leave your comments below and join us next week for our take on episode 109, “Job Offer”.

PS: Archer has been renewed for an eleventh season! And he is finally waking up from his coma, how will he cope with a world that moved on while he was gone?

And remember! Season 10, Archer: 1999 is airing right now on FXX, the eight one is airing tonight! Go watch it!
