We’re back with another week of Multiversity’s Got You Covered, with another list of high quality covers to highlight. Not only that, but come back on Monday and you’ll find my list of best covers of the month.

For now though, click through the jump to find my thoughts on the latest and greatest in comic covers.

5. The Goon #39
Art by Eric Powell

Honestly, this cover makes the list for one reason and one reason only. While the entire comic and cover make a substantial effort to be a scathing look at Big Two comics (and mostly succeeding in that attempt), one quick aside in the top left corner of this cover does that better than anything else. The way the bandaid is being pulled off the Dark Horse logo is absolutely amazing in its mocking of DC’s recent logo change, and I didn’t even notice it until I was at my local shop and one of the employees pointed it out. Eric Powell deserves to be high fived by everyone in a ten mile radius for that kind of awesome.

4. The Activity #5
Art by Mitch Gerads

Mitch Gerads! This guy is making my list for every issue of “The Activity.” You’d think he’s bribing me or something, but man, I just love these covers. I say it every month, but I love the visual link between the primary image and the actual “Activity” logo on the bottom. The layout structure is different than everything else you see in covers, and for that reason, it stands out. Isn’t that what a cover is supposed to do? Not only that, but Gerads’ art is just wonderful. The guy is a killer, and a very underrated cover artist.

3. Angel and Faith #9
Art by Rebekah Isaacs

Rebekah Isaacs is an MC favorite for many a reason, but this cover does a great job of explaining one of the big ones: she’s a freaking talent. The impersonation of religious iconography on this cover, all blended with excellent storytelling in the art, is just phenomenal. Isaacs has a gift at creating unique, striking images, and this is one that stood out on my cursory rack check this week, big time.

2. American Vampire #26
Art by Rafael Albuquerque

Once upon a time, before “American Vampire” started up, I wrote a post that revealed myself as a big Rafael Albuquerque fanboy. And it’s true – I totally am. But a cover like this? It just proves how talented the guy is, as the sketchy, shaded composition combined with an engaging, vintage color palette really, really stands out on the rack. I love the guy’s work, and I feel like he’s an Eisner waiting to happen. Hopefully soon, because he deserves it.

1. Daredevil #11
Art by Marcos Martin

Alright, some may think “oh, he went the obvious route and chose the Eisner nominee for the top spot.” Well, there’s a reason why Martin was nominated for an Eisner, and it’s the same reason I picked his cover for “Daredevil” as my number one pick of the week: the guy is insanely good. Look at this beast. Let’s do a countdown.

– Bold color palette? Check.
– Unique layout that bucks cover tradition? Check.
– Tells a story on the cover that translates well from the inside? Check.

The guy has a gift as a visual storyteller, and it’s images like this that just confirm. The guy is a killer man. While I want Yuko Shimizu to win the Eisner for Best Cover Artist, I’d have no beef with Martin winning it at all.
