Continuing today’s run of rumors proven reality, DC announced that Image co-founder and “Witchblade” creator Marc Silvestri will indeed be writing and drawing a Batman book, to be published under DC’s Black Label. The book, titled “Batman/The Joker: Deadly Duo,” will continue Black Label’s focus on the relationship between Batman and the Joker.

The Beat and Newsarama provided some details on the story, the central premise of which is that someone has stolen something very important from the Joker. That same someone, or perhaps the Joker himself, has also kidnapped Jim Gordon, and begun sending pieces of the Commissioner to Batman. Finding themselves on the same side for a change, Batman and the Joker team up for a mystery that’s set to run around seven issues.
Silvestri is writing, drawing, and inking the entire miniseries himself, which is perhaps why we’ve heard so little about the project despite Silvestri’s semi-regular teases. Newsarama reported that DC co-publisher Dan DiDio said the series does not currently have a release date, as the publisher wants to allow Silvestri to finish the series before they solicit it.
“We really want to make sure we’re consistent with how we publish product,” Newsarama reports DiDio as saying in DC’s SDCC “Meet the Publishers” panel. “If we say something is going to be there, we want it to be there at that place and time.”
Expect more info as the project nears completion, and stay tuned to Multiversity for more announcements from SDCC.
