Stepping into the sole writer chair once again, Skottie Young (“I Hate Fairyland,” “New Warriors”) is teaming up with Jorge Corona (“No. 1 with a Bullet,” “Big Trouble in Little China”) for a brand-new fantasy series from Image Comics entitled “Middlewest.” Described by Young as a blending of “a Don Bluth movie, Miyazaki, the dark adventures of old Henson movies and my childhood,” “Middlewest” tells the story of a young boy, Abel, and the quest that will take him far, across distant lands as he wrestles with his family’s past.
Details are sparse at the moment on the exact age rating and tone of the book. However, based on the images Young shared on his Twitter page and his comments, “Middlewest” is looking to be a moody adventure with equal parts darkness and beauty. It will also feature painted covers by Mike Huddleston.
“Being part of this amazing team is a dream come true,” Corona said, “and having Skottie’s trust to help him bring this world to life is really a privilege. I just can’t wait for everyone else to join us along with Abel as we travel through Middlewest.”
This Skottie Young’s second new series from Image to come out this year, the first being “Bully Wars,” an all-ages comic about a bully having to contend with life as the bullied.
Issue #1 of “Middlewest” is due to be released on November 22, 2018.
