Valiant dropped the first big news story of the week ahead of San Diego Comic Con this morning, announcing that Hillary Clinton will be guest-starring in “Faith” #5, due out November 2. The issue will be oversized, and feature three different stories.
The main story will be the continuation of the ongoing series by Jody Houser and Meghan Hetrick, but will also feature a preview of “Harbinger: Renegades” by Rafer Roberts and Colleen Doran, and the story featuring Clinton. That story will be written by first-time Valiant writer and comics legend Louise Simonson and illustrated by Pere Perez. In a piece in the Washington Post, Simonson talks about Faith as a character being very similar to Superman – a character Simonson worked on for a long time – and expresses her joy and excitement and being able to work with the character.
Of course, presidents have popped up in comics before, from the Justice Society meeting with Franklin Roosevelt to Barack Obama gracing the cover of “Amazing Spider-Man.” Simonson even wrote one of these stories in the past, where the Clintons spoke at Superman’s funeral during the ‘Death of Superman’ story in 1993.
Due to Faith’s day job as a journalist, the meeting – while, let’s face it, will still probably be a bit awkwardly shoehorned in – shouldn’t as jarring as if, say, Secretary Clinton walked into the restaurant that a character is working in.
Newsarama reports that Valiant ‘hasn’t disclosed’ if other candidates – presumably Donald Trump – will appear in their comics this year as well. Insert your own joke here if you please.
