It seems like everyone except Netflix postponed announcing anything after Wednesday’s bombshell Bendis news, and just dumped everything yesterday. So let’s get to it.

– The cast of Black Panther ramped up excitement for the upcoming film even more yesterday when they all tweeted out brand new character posters for the movie, and Costume designer Ruth E. Carter’s work really shines. Someone should tell Martin Freeman he needs a wardrobe upgrade though. Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, is directed by Ryan Coogler, and will be released on February 16 next year.
– Not to be outdone, the folks behind Deadpool 2 released their first poster, featuring Deadpool and Josh Brolin’s Cable serving up a Thanksgiving dinner in a Norman Rockwell inspired setting. In addition, Deadpool apparently took over a special holiday issue of Good Housekeeping. The issue features Deadpool’s turkey carving instructions, and recipes for “D’s Spiced Nuts” and “Creamy Clam Skinny Dip.” Yum? Deadpool 2 opens on June 1, 2018.
– Syfy’s “Deadly Class” adaptation has announced its full cast: Benedict Wong as Master Lin, Benjamin Wadsworth as Marcus, Lana Condor as Saya, Maria Gabriela de Faria as Maria, Luke Tennie as Willie, Liam James as Billy, and Michel Duval as Chico. Henry Rollins, Taylor Hickson, Siobhan Williams, Jack Gillett, Sean Depner, and Ryan Robbins will all have recurring roles. The comic by Rick Remender and Wes Craig centers around a high school for assassins.
– The 2013 Image mini-series “The Comeback” by Ed Brisson and Michael Walsh is getting a film adaptation from Sony Pictures and Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment. Collossal filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo will write and direct the project. The story centers around two men running a company that takes people back in time (illegally) to save their loved ones from dying.
– Legendary Comics, the comic imprint of Legendary Entertainment, has lost its Senior Vice President Bob Schreck. No reason was given except that they “decided to part ways.” Schreck is an industry veteran, having worked for Dark Horse, DC, and Vertigo, among others, and is currently recovering from a “severely” broken leg that required surgery.
– “Lazarus co-creator” and “Gotham Central” artist Michael Lark is returning to DC to join Tom King and Lee Weeks on the upcoming “Batman” Annual #2. It’s unclear how much of the issue he’ll be doing.
– Warren Ellis earned himself an Honorary Degree of Doctor from the University of Essex. He received the honor on Halloween, and also gave the commencement speech.
– And in addition to “X-Men Red,” there were a whole host of other new book announcements:
Aspen Comics announced the first round of books to celebrate their 15th anniversary next year. Their “Aspen Legacy” #1 retrospective will be only $0.15, and will feature Michael Turner, Talent Caldwell, Micah Gunnell, Marcus To, Francis Manapul, and more. “PortalBound” will be a five-issue sci-fi/fantasy/adventure mini-series from Mark Roslan & Gabe Carrasco, with art by Alex Arizmendi and Wes Hartman. Issue #0 will be priced at $1.50. To round out the new announcements, Vince Hernandez, Harvey Tolibao, and Frederico Blee will return with “Charismagic Volume 3” #1, as well as “Shrugged Volume 3” #1 from Frank Mastromauro, André Risso, and Beth Sotelo.
DC had a couple announcements of its own. Jumping out of the pages of “Aquaman,” Mera will get her own six-issue mini-series called, “Mera: Queen of Atlantis,” from “Aquaman writer Dan Abnett with Lan Medina on art. Batman: The Telltale Series will get a digital first tie-in series that bridges the gap between the game’s first and second seasons. The series will be written by Christos Gage with art by Raffaele Ienco, in his DC debut.
Fantagraphics is publishing a graphic memoir from McSweeney’s Internet Tendency cartoonist Ali Fitzgerald, inspired by her time in Berlin, Germany. “Fraktur: Drawn Escapes in Berlin” will release sometime in spring, and “explores Berlin’s historic and contemporary relationship to refugees and bohemia.”
Valiant announced “Armstrong and the Vault of Spirits,” a standalone one-shot from Fred Van Lente and CAFU. The special centers around a party that the immortal Armstrong is hosting for his friends in the Valiant universe, as he recounts some of his historical escapades.
Continued belowAfterShock is publishing a new series from Chris Sebela and Hayden Sherman, called “Cold War,” about a group of people woken up from a cryogenic freeze in the future, only to be drafted right into a war.
Dark Horse Comics will publish Sean O’Neill’s all-ages OGN, “Rocket Robinson and the Pharaoh’s Fortune.” The book was originally launched on Kickstarter in 2013, and will now be available in all major bookstores.
