The comic will branch off from one of the game’s two endings, namely the one where protagonist Max Caulfield refuses to use her time-traveling powers to prevent a hurricane, which was created when she stopped the murder of her childhood friend Chloe Price. That ending, which simply showed Max and Chloe waiting out the storm and driving away from the wrecked town, was significantly briefer than the other, where Max had to witness Chloe die instead, and then attend her funeral. The cover shows Max and Chloe, having waited out the storm, now stepping into the ruins of Arcadia Bay, and dealing with the repercussions of Max’s fateful decision.
Vieceli, an artist and writer, previously created promotional images for Life is Strange publisher Square Enix. “Like so many players all over the world, I fell hard for Max and her story from the release of episode one, and every chapter brought more heartache, tears and emotional rollercoasters,” she said in a press release. “One of the wonders of the series is that every player may have taken Max and Chloe on a unique journey, and so distilling their possible futures into one mini-series is a huge thing. Importantly, as with the game, it must always be remembered that what we’re creating here is one possibility out of many. I’m excited with the story we’ve opted for, and I hope readers will be too!”
“Life is Strange” #1 will be out in November, with a main cover by Manda Schank and variants by many more artists. Meanwhile, the first chapter of a sequel, Life is Strange 2 (which features a new cast of characters), will be released on September 27: a free prologue, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, is out now.
