NYCC ’18: “Young Justice: Outsiders” Comic Sets the Stage for Season Three

DC has announced a new “Young Justice: Outsiders” prequel comic, which will bridge the gap between seasons two and three of the popular animated series.

Newsarama has word that “Young Justice: Outsiders” will join the animated show of the same name as exclusive, DC Universe streaming service content. The book will be written by Young Justice producer Greg Weisman and drawn by Christopher Jones, both of whom have worked on previous “Young Justice” tie-in comics.

For those who might not know, the original Young Justice animated series ran from 2010 to 2013 on Cartoon Network, before being cancelled after a shocking season two cliffhanger. Fans campaigned tirelessly for the show’s return, and after a series of rumors and false starts, DC announced that season three, titled Young Justice: Outsiders, would release exclusively on DC Universe.

Outsiders will focus on “The Team”‘s efforts to bring down a metahuman trafficking ring (as seen in the show’s first trailer), as well as the titular Outsiders. It will likely also follow up on that season two cliffhanger, which promises some Apokoliptian action.

No details about exactly where the “Young Justice: Outsiders” comic will pick up have been released, but hopefully the book will fill in some of the gaps of what seems to be a substantial time jump between seasons two and three. Also notable is that, while “Outsiders” joins a host of comics already available on the DC Universe platform, it’s the first DC Universe-exclusive comic: it seems the publisher is not done experimenting with release channels just yet.

No release date has been announced for “Young Justice: Outsiders,” but it will likely drop alongside or before Young Justice season three begins at the start of next year.
