Things are moving full-steam ahead in Krypton‘s seventh episode, “Transformation.” Brainiac is gaining power in the Kandorian government, General Zod needs some serious help with his injuries, and Strange is just drinking his woes away while getting a free therapy session with Val-El. The pieces are almost in place for full-out war. How will it all play out? What will Adam Strange’s sullen attitude lead him to next? And when will we see Doomsday get let loose on Krypton? While we wait for these questions to be answered, let’s take a look at what we saw this episode.
1. What an Opening!
This was by far the best introduction to an episode that Krypton has given us. It was bone-chilling and ominous to see Brainiac take over more Kandorians. The cinematography was excellent, having the shots fade in and out to give a sense of confusion from the perspective of those being taken over. It’s great to see Brainiac making more moves, as I was scared they would save it for later in the season. If there’s anything this episode accomplished, it was to quell those fears.
2. Daron-Vex and Brainiac
After the introduction of the episode, we finally got to see inside the mind and cowardice of Daron-Vex. I thought this was a smart move on the writer’s part. Daron-Vex has been the slimiest and most manipulative character on the show, so it was grounding to see him with no pretenses or illusions. Seeing him bend to Brainiac’s will was quite fitting and fun. I wonder what his status will be by the end of the show? I could see him possibly rebelling against Brainiac during a pivotal moment when given the opportunity, since he must be furious at having to serve another. That being said, Daron-Vex is if nothing else a coward, and it would not surprise me if he died a sad and insignificant death.
3. Green Lanterns? Justice League?
I’m sure anyone who watched this episode did not miss the reference to the Justice League and power rings. I just cannot tell you how happy it would make me (and I’m sure most people reading this) if we saw some Green Lantern action take place before the finale of the show. It would be quite plausible, given that Brainiac is a universal threat and the Guardians would absolutely be aware of his dealings.
Another possibility is the Justice League making an appearance. I think this is less likely, given that the movie came out recently and they wouldn’t want to mess too much with continuity here. But then again, why would they drop this huge bomb on us if not to give us an idea of what’s to come? Finger’s crossed.
4. Zeta Beam
Now that the Zeta Beam is up and running, the door is wide open with possibility. We must remember that Adam Strange’s goal is do let Kandor be destroyed in order to save Superman. But if he is able to use the Zeta Beam to find help (hopefully from either party listed above), he could perhaps find a way to save both Kandor and Superman.
5. Brainiac Wins the Battle of the Wits
I thought the ending to the episode was great. In one fell swoop, Brainiac was able to unknowingly foil Seg’s plan to bring him into the open. By showing the Kandorians his god-like power, there is no way the public will ever doubt the Voice of Rao again, thus cementing Brainiac’s deception. It’s anyone’s guess as to how Team Seg will overcome this new and heightened obstacle.
