Welcome one and all to Multiversity’s very own ‘Witching Hour,’ in which we take a look at Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. This season, join me every Tuesday for your weekly recap. With the pagans circling ever closer the Spellmans reach out for help from other witches.

1. Unite or Die

It’s not easy asking for help, especially when you have supernatural powers. Things get even dicier when you throw in five or six wild witches. These coven-less witches, some of whom we’ve seen before, Gryla, and Mambo Marie have been summoned to help the Church of Night with their pagan problem. It does take some convincing though. They have to really believe that the pagans with Pan, seek to destroy all witch kind, if they are to be any help to the coven. I love the idea of wild witches, these powerful women with allegiances to no coven, teaming up to fight a force more powerful than any of them individually. I hope when the pagan threat is disposed of (cause c’mon they’ll be disposed of right?) the show leans more heavily into showing off these witches, at least some of them.

2. Pygmalion

Now powerless, Sabrina is really in a pickle when it comes to her friends. They’ve gone off and gotten Roz turned to stone and some jocks turned into pigs. Help comes from the unlikely hands of Caliban, who seems to genuinely care about Sabrina’s plight in this episode. He tells her of the Pygmalian Spell, which consists of Harvey praying to Aphrodite and forsaking his love for Roz in order to save her. He vows to never kiss her again or she’ll turn to stone permanently. The spell, however, backfires and does not restore Roz. Caliban insists that the spell was rejected because Harvey loves another. Gee I wonder who that could be HINT HINT, NUDGE NUDGE. Harvey’s reaction to this is so over the top that it’s too clear that he still has feelings for Sabrina. Factor in their conversation about being virgins and we’ve got some classic teen drama unfolding.

3. Bringing the Fight

Robin tells the Fright Club that Circe is a transformation witch, that she can change Roz, Dorcus and the Jocks all back into their respective forms. Sabrina, in all her gusto wants to charge into the lion’s den head on, as she does. But without powers she doesn’t stand a chance. Queue our lovely hedge-witches all of whom hold no allegiance to Lucifer. He’s not holding back their powers. So naturally Sabrina bribes the witches with a little wine and they agree to lend some of their powers to Sabrina.

In a major power move, Sabrina waltz right up to the carnival and owns the pagans. She uses the powers bestowed upon her to capture Circe and she brings the pagan witch back to the Academy. There, Circe’s forced to undo her magics and is locked up in the dungeon. I’d call this a win except there’s always something more happening on this show!

4. The Itsy Bitsy Hilda

Over the last two episodes Lucy Davis’ Hilda has been through the ringer. She’s eating flies out of the air, popping some puss-filled pimples on her cheek and most recently adding more arachnid eyes to her head. Hilda is transforming into a Spider thanks to Circe. Hilda told her she kept spiders as pets and Circe did not respond kindly. Up until now, Hilda has been thinking that whatever curse was cast on her was set to kill her. She wants to spend one last day with Dr. Cee before she dies. The show leans heavily into body horror here with some truly grotesque makeup. Once again, kudos to Lucy Davis who is just the best. Hilda calls her sister and instructs her to bring a gun to Dr. Cee’s so she can kill her. Armed with a shotgun Zelda blasts her sister with hopes of resurrecting her in the Cain pit.

5. Wardwell strikes again

Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen. Madam Satan tries to convince the coven to hide her, and though she fails to convince them for protection, she convinces Blackwood to put her under a protection spell when she is caught at the real Mary Wardwell’s house by Satan. The episode ends with Wardwell showing up at the Spellmans, and shooting Zelda. End. Of. Episode.

What a way to end the episode, huh? As I’ve said before, this season is so jam packed with content that I think Netflix should have ordered a longer season. How can they possibly wrap up this season with two episodes left. Sabrina’s aunts are both indisposed, the coven is powerless, Satan is about to free, and the pagans are a threat too large to ignore. Let’s not forget about the challenge for the throne of hell. So join me next week as we enter the last leg of the season.
