Welcome one and all to Multiversity’s very own ‘Witching Hour,’ in which we take a look at Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Join me this season every Monday for my recap the show’s final season. We’re now halfway through the final season and more surprises are on the horizon. Our heroes still have four Eldritch Terrors to deal with but first, both Sabrinas will have to clean up the mess they’ve made.
1. The Jig is up
With Blackwood no longer on the loose, its easy to forget that there is still a cosmic threat out in the universe gunning for Greendale. But the Fright Club has adealt with four Eldritch Terrors already, so Sabrina and Roz take the time to deal with mundane mortal issues. The newly elected Baxter High co-presidents make promises to reform their school’s… lunch menu? Mundane indeed. We find out that Nick Scratch has transferred to Baxter High, trying to win Sabrina back. After all, they are “endgame” as he said last episode. All he wants is to be a part of her world. Sabrina teases him, throwing a Little Mermaid jab at him. Suddenly there’s an earthquake and we discover that this is happening all over town, with pieces of the Infernal Realm popping up everywhere.
Meanwhile, in Hell, Sabrina Morningstar is dealing with a similar situation, with pieces of Greendale falling into Hell. Mamba Marie calls Ambrose and Sabrina into the observatory where we see Earth and Hell beginning to collide into one another. Ambrose goes on an “I told you so” rant and Sabrina finally decides to do the right thing and fess up to mucking up the timeline. When she gets to the Academy ready to tell her aunts the truth, she discovers the Morningstars are there having already told the aunties the truth.
2. Metatron
We were given a sneak peek at the celestial realm earlier this season and at the top of the episode a woman with wings (uh an angel) is seen watching over the realms and vowing to take care of Sabrina. We later discover this angel is Metatron, and they are there to say that in order for the realms to be spared, Sabrina must die. Of course no one is happy about that so the angel devises a new plan, one that will see both Sabrinas merge into one. But these two Sabrinas are as vastly different, each having their own distinct souls, who knows what the “new Sabrina” will be like. Metatron gives each Sabrina six hours to make peace with their lives so they can repair the damage they have done.
3. Total Eclipse of The Heart
Sabrina Morningstar decides to spend her final six hours with the Fright Club, as she hasn’t been able to spend much time with them lately, ya know cause she’s busy ruling over Hell. And Sabrina Spellman spends some quality time with Nick Scratch. In fact, she must have taken that endgame comment to heart, because she decides that now would be the best time to sleep with him. To make things extra special, this scene is juxtaposed with Morningstar and the Fright Club singing “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Yes, It’s as amazing as it sounds.
4. The Cosmic
I don’t know how each Sabrina was able to make peace with their fate in six short hours, but they did. Both of them willing to pay the piper for their mistake. Metatron is all too happy to begin the ritual, but before they are able to finish, Ambrose barges in and tells them of his discovery. It seems like three more realms are on a collision course with their realms. As it turns out, these realms are the next Eldritch Terror: The Cosmic. Metatron didn’t disclose this to anybody because they saw that the odds the Sabrinas would still go through it with the ritual dropped dramatically.
Citing order as their goal, Metatron attempts to continue the ritual, however the combined power of the Spellmans and Lucifer is more than enough to break the angel’s neck. And now the witches are back to square one and have to think of another plan.
Continued below5. Rock, Paper, Scissors
The new plan entails sending one of the Sabrinas into The Cosmic. I’m kind of uncertain that its actually a real plan. Like how will one Sabrina stop a cosmic force by herself? What’s the actual play here? Well we’re not really told what a Sabrina will do, but both are on board to venture into the unknown. And who decides which Sabrina goes? Lucifer and Caliban obviously want Spellman to go, whereas Aunt Zelda and Aunt Hilda say that Sabrina Morningstar is the lesser of the two Sabrinas. Well the Sabrinas are tired of the bickering, so they decide to use the only real fair method of choosing a sacrifice: Rock, Paper, Scissors. Morningstar loses the round and dives head first into a black hole. Morningstar emerges from the black hole into a similar reality, except Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda are not the same. SURPRISE Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick are back reprising their roles. Cut back to the Spellmans. At the end of the episode, Sabrina Spellman and Nick see a shooting star and Spellman wishes that Sabrina Morningstar is safe.
What a cliffhanger. Guess we’ll just have to wait til next week to see how this pans out.
Stray Thoughts
Once again I’m leaving out the subplots because they’re really not important, but a couple things to mention:
– Theo makes Robin leave for the Faye realm (More realms! this could have been a recurring thing if they were given more time) after another hobgoblin says that every day Robin spends with Theo, makes him weaker and weaker.
– Lilith, in a stroke of madness, kills her newborn baby Adam in the same brutal way Lucifer killed her former beau Adam. She chops him up and serves him for dinner. Even for Lilith that’s a little much. But here we are. Lucifer decides to take her magic away so Lilith will be forced to live as a mortal without the promise of ever dying.
That’s all folks. Join me next week as we continue hurdling toward the bitter end of this season.
