More exciting news coming out of San Diego Comic Con: for the first time in English, Oiwa Kenji and Yano Takashi’s “Assassin’s Creed: Awakening” will be published for the English language comics market. Originally serialized in Shueisha’s short-lived “Jump X” magazine under the title “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag,” the series adapts the best-selling video game, continuing the adventures of series star Edward Kenney. Set in the golden age of pirates, the comic promises gorgeous art, swashbuckling adventure and loads of action.
While this was originally a manga title, the mini-series will be published as standard-size, single issues. The announcement, combined with the comic’s format, leads me to believe that the Titan must have found success in the recently launched “Sherlock” manga adaptation. The UK-based publisher has long been known for releasing works from a variety of international markets, so seeing their foray into Japanese comics is exciting. Expect the first issue of the series to be solicited in September’s Previews catalog, presumably for a November launch. In the meantime, we’ve got this exclusive first-look at an interior page form the series.
